Once you get it to open unplug the power cord in the back. Inside you will see two gears on the left and one rubberband pulley system in the middle. With a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol ( or eye glass lens cleaner ) wipe down those three sections. Keep rolling the rubberband until you get the whole thing wiped down. Plug it back in and then enjoy.

Right okay. i had the same problem for a while, but i recently tryed to open my disk tray and like the rest of you, it just refused to open. I Grabbed a paperclip, un folded it and took the faceplate off. I then found a small cog like wheel that has a tiny rubber band on it, that you can just about see in the left hand side of the disk tray, i spun this around with the paper clip untill it felt like it wouldnt turn any more. I kept turning it untill it became loose again. i then pressed my Tray button, and IT worked!!! im not sure how long this will last but its a Solution :)

The very first thing, I would suggest you is to check the CD cover, as sometimes labels on CDs prevent tray to close.
If that does not work then do the following.
Remove disc from the tray, make sure the faceplate is on correctly.
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.
• Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
• If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox customer support to order a replacement faceplate.
If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3 and other steps from following link.
If you wish you can also use following link of interactive troubleshooting wizard, which will assist you to narrow down on the issue.
This solution is absolutely free. If your issue is still not resolved, please feel free to ask.
