I have a KitchenAid Microwave that the tension spring is broke. I need to order a replacement part. The model is KAW38AVM726. I have seen the same model number on your website, but it seems the model number is changed as I can not find it on most websites for parts. Also need diagram if possible.

That model number does not look right. Please check the tag on or in the unit again.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you should be able to download it here.

The door springs must be replaced in pairs to keep the wear even.

It sounds like the door spring had broken. Take the covers off and it should be apparent what had happened. It may be a part you can get at the hardware store or it may be an OEM part.

When i open the door it felt like a spring broke. i have to hold the door from slamming open now

That would be a broken door spring, and it's best to replace them in pairs.

On some models, this can be a difficult job.

Microwave door comes down hard and fast. Lost it's tension/spring? Also liquid has gotten in between the door of both the Microwave and oven door. How to clean?

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

Broken torsion spring needs to be replaced

There are indeed two springs that "cross" each other, and they must be both be replaced to ensure full strength.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Microwave door tension spring

See answer here http://www.fixya.com/support/t265705-microwave_door

in different thread.. Basically have to pry plastic trim ring off inside of door with putty knife (careful, it cracks easily) to get to screws on bottom of door. See second pic. Top screws are easily accessible from inside of door. Spring can easily be replaced by hand once you get adequate access. You'll need a fairly stubby right angle screwdriver (I used a cut-down #2 Phillips bit and small Vice-Grips as a make-do) to get to the screws. Also need Torx (T10, I think) to detach the shock absorber doodads from the door where they attach above the hinges. If you're just starting to take the door apart, be careful when you take out the top 2 screws on the inside-- they hold the inside plastic piece on , but they also hold the whole outer stainless/ glass/ handle piece on. It just slips in at the bottom, so be ready to slide it out when you take these screws out.fea33aa.pngc391898.jpg

Handle Replacement on a HKMS155L Microwave

I think you have solved your problem already.

I have seen your requesty only now and I am sending the diagram to replace handle.

You remove door latch (nr 3 on diagram) first, then you unscrew the screw nr .8 and remove handle (nr.7).

Below the diagram:
