I just wanted to let you know I followed your suggestion for unlocking a gas stove after cleaning and door wouldn't open.
I had the same problem with a Kenmore electric stove except that the lock was jammed after the door opened and we couldn't get the door shut!
I lifted it a couple inches off the floor in the front and dropped it - worked like magic!! Thank you for saving us lots of $$ on an appliance repair person!
The lock is operated by a solenoid and may have stuck due to friction or goo around the magnet core. Try bumping the stove or lifting it 2 inches in front and dropping to the floor. 2 inches will not break anything. There may be a mechanical timer in the self-cleaning circuit... is your gas stove still plugged in and showing signs of power such as ability to ignite top burners electrically? If the timer has failed the door lock solenoid is still activated and there could be a slight hum. Try unplugging the range and see if the door can be opened. The thermal interlock should be free to let the lock retract. If that works replace the timer motor. If solid state (no timer motor) replace circuit board with timer relay.
