Unfortunately this usually means that the actual timer mechanism is bad within the machine. This is not something you can fix and will require a new mechanism which you can either have a repairman come and install or buy a new one at an appliance part shop and install yourself. Installation of a new timer is fairly simple and should only require a flat tip and phillips head screwdrivers and about 15 minutes.

Automatic timer does not advance but timed heat does advance .?

Unplug the unit from the power, or shut off the breaker. Open the unit and check that all wires are firmly connected, no loose ends or broken wires. If all connects seem tight and the wires are in good condition You may need to replace the timer switch. The link below is for the users/owners manual for your machine:

Why won't my GE electric dryer shut off? My GE

The model number you submitted is not valid. Long dry times and dryer not shutting off is either an element problem, an air flow problem. Lets begin with a good model number so we can see your unit as you do...

Timer counts down but doesnt shut off

same problem with Kenmore dryer Model No. 110.96250100. The timer would not advance under any setting. I replaced the timer and it only advances under timed dry but does not shut off when it times out. Under all other settings, the timer knob does not move, but the temperature stays warm. I checked the continuity on thermostats and resistor and, to the best of my knowledge, all passed. all in all, it appears to be a mechanical problem with your timer.

Amana dryer not advancing on auto

Make sure the vent from the dryer to the outside is clean.
Reduced air flow can cause your symptom.

You can remove the vent hose from the dryer and operate the dryer in the automatic cycle.'
If the timer advances you know the vent needs cleaning.
Clean the lint filter housing also.
A flashlight helps to see all the way down the housing.

Dryer won't shut off. Heats fine. Timer advances on air dry only. Vent is not clogged. Can't find moisture sensor replacement part.

The dryer requires cycling of the heat to advance thhe timer on auto dry cycle. see ,link provided parts and repair guidance. Always remove from power supply first.

Timer only works on Timed Dry Setting

Check your heating element. If one coil of the heating element is burnt out the dryer will heat on the remaining coil, but the timer will not advance in automatic dry.
