This is a Husqvarna YTH2042XP ride on mower. I don't think it is the clutch though. I think the clutch drives the belt for the mower blades, so I am thinking it's in the transmission or transaxle setup. I have purged the transmission a couple of times to no avail as well as replacing the drive belt. When I press the drive pedal part way down the tractor will move a little bit. The more I press the pedal down the less the tractor will move and there is no real torque there either. Cheers

That was the issue! What was happening was everything was ok except when you put your left foot on the foot brake and release the locking mechanism for the park brake, the foot brake wasn't returning to the fully up/raised/released position due to a buildup of dirt/grass on the underside of the floor. There is a stopper on the underside of the floor, this buildup was stopping the pedal from returning to the fully "up" postion. Once I removed the trash build-up, problem solved. Awesome, thank you very much for your help in this matter, it gave me a place to start looking.

In hind sight, I didn't exactly discribe the issue correctly either. Cheers

No worries there, thank you for your interest in helping. I have resolved the issue with it now. Thanks again

Thank you for that. I do have a parts book, but my mistake, I didn't describe the issue correctly and thought I had corrected it but as I can see above it didn't.

I have since resolved the issue I had with it, so thanks for your endeavour to assist

If u go to the link below which is a parts list on page 32 of that list you will need to replace the electric clutch assembly which is #9 on the illustration, the part number is 532 16 08-89 {Clutch Electric EVX}, refer to the diagram for location, if u replace the belt you should have no troulbe with replacing the electric clutch.

Check again that you have the right belt for that and that the tensioner is working properly.

Manual for 24 hp 42 craftsman - Diagram and How to change the drive belt?

Remember this, there is a belt diagram under the left foot rest. It will show you how the belt is rigged onto the pulleys. In changing this belt you will have to pull the clutch assembly, from beneath the motor. Only one bolt holds this assembly to the motor's vertical shaft.Once removed, install the belt onto the pulleys. Then slip the belt onto the clutch assembly's pulley and lift straight up,align the key way with the key and slip on the clutch assembly and replace the bolt.Torque down the bolt,i can't remember the torque pounds, but i believe it's 100-200 lbs. of torque.B. A just clutch

you shouldn't need to adjust the clutch on a riding lawnmower, all it does is apply pressure to the belt acting like a tensioner pulley to cause the belt to grip the crankshaft and drive pulleys. you should check to make sure that the pulley on the clutch linkage is in good shape and spins freely, also your belt may have stretched beyond the clutches ability to provide enough tension to drive the mower. or the belt has slipped to the wrong side of the clutch pulley.

Have greenfield fast cut 34 mower replace drive belt but have problem going forward up hills clutch is worn half mm could clutch be glazed

Are you sure your new belt is the proper length A quarter inch too long could make it slip. Something to try is spray your belt with belt dressing and see if that helps That will help stop it from slipping.I had to do that with one of mine when my belt was not the right size. I shot spray about once a week one summer.

Why would a riding mower have the blade turning slow?

If speed varies depending on how much grass you are cutting, look for loose or badly worn belt. If constant slow speed when engine is running at full noise can only be a slipping on pulley or clutch. Most likely clutch. Normally slipping generates much heat so look to your clutch or pulleys. If drive key has separated there will be damage to shaft with metal dust showing.

I have a cub cadet ztr 50 and the pto clutch slips when in heavy grass

A PTO clutch can wear out and slip, but how have you determined it's the clutch internals, and not the mower drive belt that is slipping? Take off the mower drive belt and inspect it. Make sure it's not worn out or stretched. Make sure the spindles and pulleys turn freely and aren't frozen or binding. When you reinstall the belt, check the tension on it -- usually shouldn't be able to deflect the belt more than about 1/2 inch with strong thumb pressure. Some mowers use two springs to tension the idler pulley. If one spring has come undone or gotten lost, you'll get slippage. If all that is OK, then you may have internal slippage in the clutch. Removing and disassembling the clutch can be challenging, and replacement is expensive, so check for more common problems first.

Clutch Slip

or at very low speed. The only way around it is to accelerate very slowly for a bit. After reading the forums I tried... -rolling the bike backward about 3' and examine the belt--the belt stays right at the top of the pulley. -examining the clutch--doesn't appear to be any rubber particles (shouldn't be as it was just replaced!) Also the drive belt is new. The only other thing to comment on is while I assumed I was buying a new clutch the red writing on the clutch indicates it is a rebuilt. That's all the info I have--any ideas?? Thanks! ,Slipping won't work for long. We have never seen slipping when all belt friction surfaces are clean. The belt should be totally dry and clean. The metal surfaces of both clutches can be cleaned with brake cleaner to remove any lubricants or oils that may be on them. Typically real slipping will destroy a belt almost instantly.,,,
