  • MJB795 Mar 07, 2008

We have not turned our TV off in 2 days as for fear of it not coming on again. It will take up ti 20 min to get it to come on. The power button flashes 3 times and the TV won't come on and then it wont even flash again unless we wait a couple of minutes to try it again. It seems it comes on by chance....I am stumped as to what to try. They mentioned something about a child-safety lock on there........Please any HELP would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!

I have the same problem with the 3 power light flashes and the noise in the back

  • Anonymous May 19, 2008

When I push the remote 'power on' button, I hear the TV click on, the red 'power light' underneath the screen flashes constantly, but the picture never comes on. If I push the remote power button two times in rapid succession, the process repeats itself. The problem worsened over the past several days. Ocasionally, the TV would come on, but now it will not come on at all.

  • Anonymous May 31, 2008

the tv runs power on checks before turning on the tv.it tries 3 times.after that it times out.my problem is the deflection board,(lower left hand board in the back of the unit.it is either a power transistor that wont function cold or soldering issues.all i know is i heat up the deflection board with my hair dryer on that board for about a minute, then it comes on fine, works fine.if something else goes, this tv is going in a land fill.RCA is a bad company now, poor products, very poor service.

We are all having the same problem and cannot get a single English speaking soul at RCA, is there anything we can do about this? Even if we had the extended warranty it would have expired a month or so before the t.v. died and the only troubleshooting option for the t.v. is to change the bulb and that was not it!!!!!!!!

Have had the exact same problem. Three flashes of the power light and nothing happens. The last time the tv turned off it took 5 days to get it back on. We havn't turned if off for weeks. It got turned off again and can't get it back on. Impossible to find anyway to fix without calling a repair shop. Will never buy another RCA TV again.

  • apuesey Jul 12, 2008

Just minutes after posting my problem my husband was at the back of the TV trying to see what the problem was. He had pull off the back of the tv at the bottom and was listening for where the clicking noise was coming from. There is a small grey box at the very left of the inside of the tv. I pushed the power button again and when he heard the second click he hit the grey box with the handle of a screwdriver out of frustratioin and the tv suddenly came on. After several hours of pushing the button something finally worked. I'm still afraid to to the TV off again, but this will be the first thing we try text time!

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2009

My tv is doing the same thing, the power light flashes 3 times then stays off. Im going to try the blow dryer trick. I called a repair shop and they said it would cost around $250 to fix. If they can fix it. Does anyone know how long it will last while using the blow dryer or do I need to start looking for a new tv?

  • Anonymous Jan 16, 2009

Hair dryer works! I will NOT turn off my tv again untill I get it fixed. And DO NOT call RCA to help because all they are going to do is refer you to a repair shop in your area. I dont need thier help to find a repair shop. Plus, there soultion to fixing this problem was unplugging the tv for 1 min. But his first question after I told him the tv would not come on was, "what are you seeing on the screen? Is it just blurry?" I was like NO there is no picture the tv will not come on. So he said "How about trying to change the channel. Maybe just that channel is not coming on" Okay, when I hear the tv will not power on, I think, the tv is not powered on. Man, if RCA has that kinda people working for them, I will never buy a RCA product on. Also you cannont buy a new board, you have to go though thier repair shop. Unless your warrenty covers it all you will have to pay for the board and the service call. So, Im just going to go buy a new Samsung when this one goes out for good. Sorry for the long post, just dont want anyone else to waste their time calling RCA. Because they will not do anything but refer you.

If you take off the back cover, cp 150 is located on the left circuit board. There are 3 or 4 C-shaped metal heat sinks in the board, and capacitor cp-150 is located inside the furthest one. Once you find cp 150 check the top of it to see if it is still flat, as opposed to puffed up. If it is puffed up I am almost certain this is you problem.

My tv would flash green 3 times and turn off for 45 seconds. It was taking up to 20 minutes to finally turn it on, so I bought a pack of 5 capacitors off of ebay to replace capacitor cp 150, which is just a (2200uF,16V) capacitor. I replaced it 10 minutes ago, and the tv turned right on. Fix Ya!

The truth is, there could be a million things wrong with the TV. The reason the power button flashes three times is because the TV gives it self three chances to turn on. If it fails it shuts off. I was having the same problem. So I thought it was the flyback transformer because those things go bad very often. I bought a new one, installed it but still the same problem. Through the process of elimination I determined it was infact a bad connection on another transformer located on the same board as the flyback just all the way to the back. I resoldered the connections and haven't had a problem since. I think the problem was because of a, "cold solder joint" where the solder isn't making good enough contact for prolonged use. Also the "clicking" noise people are describing is an electric discharge coming from the transformer. Like shocking someone after rubbing your feet on a carpet. That is what lead me to check the solder joints on that tranformer making the noise. I hope this helps people.

  • Anonymous Apr 20, 2009

I made a post a while ago saying that I had resoldered the connections on a large transformer in the tv. If you have replaced the flyback and it is still having the same problem, don't buy a signal board before trying this; go to Radio Shack and buy you a solder kit, a cheap one is fine. When you open the back of your tv you will see some curcuit boards. Find the one with the flyback tranformer located on it. It will be the one with the big red wire running into the top of it. Besure you have unplugged your tv and the static charge has had time to bleed out before you touch anything. you should be able to unplug the tv and hit the power button a few times to discharge it, but that may not work for everyone so just wait a while after unpluging it.

once you've located the board, look all the way to the opposite side from the flyback. There should be a large transformer located there. On top it should be marked with, OREGA 40322-139, or something like that. once you have located it, unplug everything from the board. If you cant get the flyback unhooked dont worry about it. take out all of the screws holding the board down, if any. then remove the board. If you couldnt get the flyback unhooked like I said before, dont worry. Just roll the board over and work on it in the floor if you must. Now located the transformer mentioned before again. On the opposite side of the board find ALL of its connections. Once done, simply take your roll of solder in one hand and, your soldering iron/gun in the other and one by one, melt and resolder each of the connections. besure you throughly heat each connection so you do not end up with another cold solder joint. Once done; put the board back in; reconnect everything; plug your tv back in and!? Well you'll have to see if it worked. :) good luck. it worked for me.

Im a tech.my personal opinion why the hair dryer heat works on the deflection board is that rca power up protect software specs were too tight, designed by 1st new unit.over a period of aging of the parts,1 of the test voltages may be coming up slower than the software can accept.i have no idea which voltage line or lines may be at fault.however, rca engineers would know but rca has refused to support this tv.there are no replacement boards also.im glad i posted that hair dryer tip cause i stumbled on it by chance.that tv too big to just discard easily.mine still works if i heat up the deflection board.

I had the same problem with my 56'' RCA t.v. I checked the whole bircuit board with the flyback transformer, which is located in back of the t.v. on the left side, and found 2 capacitors that were bulging at the top. This told me that they were bad. I desoldered them and replaced them with good (220uf 36v

Im Dave9375. I posted the problem with my RCA TV. I had a local repair guy come out to my house, charged me 95.00 to tell me that he didnt know what it was but it was going to be expensive and had to take to the shop to find out. I gave up on the tv and bought a new one. I put the old one on Craigslist for sale and immediately got a response from a guy who knew what was wrong with it. Mine had a 4.00 part, I believe it was a diode located shortly after the transformer that had went bad, possibly due to the power surges that had been going from the past ice storm. So from what I now know, when the light is flashing and does not come on it can be many different things. The tv has detected some part of the tv pulling to much power and shuts down, however it does not tell you what part of the tv has the problem. Mine is working fine now.

As suggested to another user, there may also be a child lock feature for this unit.

Suggest you drag out the user's manual or download it here.

No, more than likely you have a bad power/deflection board. It must be replaced by a professional service technician.

Capacitors can fail without any visual signs. That is not a reliable way to check them.. You need an ESR meter etc. There is also an inverter unit in that and it could have one or more bad components. Checking my recommended sites show those items are out of stock.

Why won't it turn on?

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Mitsubishi projection tv picture and sound turn off but the power button remains on with no picture or sound turn tv off real quick and then back on and works for 2 mins then turns off again what could be...

Here's the basic troubleshooting:

  1. Make sure that no front panel buttons are inadvertently stuck in an "engaged" position.
  2. Disconnect ALL devices from the TV.
  3. Press the SYSTEM RESET button and hold for 10 seconds. Proceed if the problem still exist.
  4. Press and hold POWER and MENU buttons simultaneously for 20 seconds. Proceed if the problem still exist.
  5. Unplug the TV from it's power source for various times, ranging between 5 minutes and 24 hours.
  6. If it still shuts down, press the DEVICE and MENU buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold it for 5 seconds to activate the Error Code Operational Check. The status LED indicator will then flash denoting a two digit code.
  7. Count the number of flashes then pauses for about a half second then flashes again. The first number of flashes indicates the first digit of the error code and the second number of flashes indicates the second digit of the code. For example, if the error code is "35", the LED will flash 3 times, pauses, then flashes 5 times. The error code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Please let me know the code you got and I'll tell where the problem lies and how to fix it.

No picture, sound and flashing red power light...

Pull off the back pressboard. At the bottom left hand corner is the power cord that attaches to the power supply board. There is a white plug that attaches directly to the power cord. With the TV power off, pull this white plug up to disconnect. Then push it back in. Then plug your TV back in and press the power button on the front of the TV. I just did this and it is working fine.

NO POWER, PICTURE, OR SOUND, power button flashes green 2-3 times

check the wires inside at the left lower region as you are looking at the rear. There are several circuit boards there that tend to loosen when moved. The cables are really ribbons like those used in computers.  I'd lioke to be more specific however I'm not entirely familiar with this model, just rear projection tvs in general.
