I can't get the phone to work

You know what the problem is, your phone has some corrosion on it, probably on the headphone jack area and on the pop port area. If the corrosion is visible enough on the outside, get a used toothbrush and brush it off. Once the corrosion is removed, the car icon on the upper portion of your phone's screen will disappear.
