Re: pc freezes during boot up

If that is a desktop, it is probably cooling system failure.

  • check if cooling fan works properly
  • check if the heat sink is exactly in contact with the processor
  • clean the heat sink if it is likely to have some dirty
do tis and let me informed on what you managed to go about.

Hi, you will need to reformat your hard drive before installing XP, First boot into BIOS by pressing the F1 key during bootup, change the primary boot drvice to CD rom, save changes. Insert XP cd into drive and reboot PC; select boot from CD when this appears during the initial boot fase. Allow files to be installed. When this finishes, delete partion and then repartion hard drive. Select format hard drive, when this completes your PC will reboot, do not select boot from CD and XP will start to install normally.
Hope this helps, if not come back to me.

How to restore damaged system boot file.

When Windows system boot file is corrupted, the best thing to do is reinstalling the system.
This can be done either using original recovery CD, or using Windows setup disk.

To preserve your data you will need to chose partial recovery or upgrade setup.

Windows CDs has also a tool called Recovery Console that can be used to repair this kind of problems.

Here the procedure to fix the problem using Windows Recovery Console:
  • Insert Windows Setup CD, then start the computer.
  • When Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R.
  • When asked, chose the Windows installation you wish to repair (eg 1) , then press Enter.
  • When prompted, enter the administrator password .
  • When command prompt (DOS screen) starts, enter the following commands./ (if C: is not your Windows system drive, then change the drive letter)
  • Remove the Windows CD from drive and restart computer.

I am assuming you have already backed up all of your data before doing this. But, it probably hit a bad sector on the drive. To get around this just insert the CD again and boot from the CD. When prompted on the screen, you will want to delete your partitions and do one large partition. That should help.

Windows xp will not install

If you don't see the message on start up "Press any key to boot from cd" Then you need to change the boot order.

Start the PC and hit delete a number of times. This will take you into the bios screen. (Set up screen)

You will have a tab called "Boot Priority" or "Boot order". Make sure that CD/DVD drive has 1st priority. Save & exit & your done. Upon restart if you have a disc in the drive you will get the option to press any key to boot from CD/DVD. By default, most motherboards are set to boot from floppy & then Hard drive so in most cases you will need to enter setup & change the boot order.

Don't forget to rate me.

Xp recovery

You need to download all the drivers installer files from manufacturer website first, and also all the software you want to install automatically with Windows. Then you build a Windows Xp boot CD with all the software setup embedded.
