Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I need a wiring diagram for connecting this JBL MR-5 player up to power and speakers. It is going on a UTV so a simple hook up is needed. There are three sets of RED and WHITE connectors on the harness that are labled "rear in/out","front in/out and "aux in/out. Are these for speakers? can I plug head phones into one of these (with a "y" adapter and get sound? Thanks. I also have been looking on line for a operation manual with no luck at all. Can you help? Thanks Rick Please e-mail me at

    Thank you for the wiring instructions. A couple of more questions. If connecting power wire, RED, to switched to ACC do I still connect YELLOW at battery Positive (+) terminal?

    Also there is a second 6 terminal plastic conector with four 18 gage wires, green blue red and black, is this the switched power wire? Do I connect the black wire on this as well to ground?

    The other bigger plastic connector is 12 terminal with 16 gage wire. This is the one with a fused yellow wire ,constant power and black ground wires plus the others you mentioned.

    You are a great help but I need to ask about the switched connection again. On the 6 terminal plastic connector there is a red wire. On the 12 terminal plastic connector there is also a red wire. which red wire would be hooked up for acc switched? Also the is a blue wire that has a 1 amp in line fuse on the 12 terminal plastic connector, Is this the radio triggered you mentioned? I would like to hook up so it only is powered on when key is turned on. I can get by if I need to hook directly to battery.

    Thanks for your help and patience.

    Thank you. What are the 4 wires, red blue green and black, used for on the 6 pin plastic connector? I think this should be the last question.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the description "...RED and WHITE connectors..." and the labels are significant as they indicate RCA jacks. These are low level signal inputs/outputs intended for external amplifiers and add-ons and not intended for speaker nor headphone connections.

Offhand, the speaker connections are:

  • white & white / black - front left;
  • gray & gray / black - front right;
  • green & green / black - rear left;
  • violet & violet / black - rear right.

Additionally, other wires are:
  • yellow - always on / constant +12 such as the battery's + terminal;
  • red - switched +12 such as the ACC terminal of the ignition switch;
  • black - any grounded metal part of the vehicle not only to the ground wire of the harness;
  • blue - radio triggered + 12 meant for a power antenna or an external amplifier.

Unfortunately, no readily available owner's manual.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

    Appreciate your postback. To your subsequent queries:

    • If connecting power wire, RED, to switched to ACC do I still connect YELLOW at battery Positive (+) terminal? - yes, as the yellow carries the main power (hence it is fused) as well as memory backup;

    • Also there is a second 6 terminal plastic conector with four 18 gage
      wires, green blue red and black, is this the switched power wire? Do I
      connect the black wire on this as well to ground? -
      no, it is not necessary

    • The other bigger plastic connector is 12 terminal with 16 gage wire. This is the one with a fused yellow wire... - yes, this is the main / power connector that will have to be used.

    I understand.

    Please use the red wire coming from the 12-pin connector. All other / un-used wires should be capped or taped (no bare strands of wire exposed).

    Yes on the blue wire. This is the wire to be connected to an external device such as a power antenna or an add-on amplifier.

    The 6-pin connector plugs into the extension wire set of an optional hard wired remote control such as a JBL REM20GSW.

I need help hooking up my system from cable box to old toshiba 52 inch tv does not have hdmi on tv red, green , blue wires i also bought today a sony blue ray player speakers are not working ...

Please indicate the brand and model of your receiver, BD player and your speakers. Basically, you just need to connect the cable box and blue ray player to the receiver. The 5.1 speakers should be connected to the blue ray player, then another set of cables from your BD player to your TV. When you want to use the speakers while watching TV, you need to turn on the blue ray player too.

You want to pick up a wiring harness for your truck at your local parts store or online, should be petty cheap. Then all you have to do is match up colors, ie purple with white stripe to purple with white stripe. The other thing you can do is hook a9 volt battery between the similar colored wire pairs from your trucks wiring. Then you will know which pairs go to which speaker. The other ones you need to know about are red, black and yellow, they should correspond directly to your trucks wires, red and black are power and yellow is the accessory

VRX 928 array speakers:Can we use straightwire waveguide3 cables?

Sure, why wouldn't it be? Are you using the 14 gauge wire and what length are you needing? If running crazy long lengths double the 4 conductors together which will give you an effective 11 gauge cable.

Bloon Fuses!

You don't need schematics to replace the fuses.
Open the speaker unit by unscrewing the back. The fuses are located near the on/off switch assembly. Replace them and screw the the unit back together.
To avoid blown fuses, try lowering the volume.
