WGR614 v6 Fails to connect to internet, no wirelss signal

Hi
I made the mistake of unplugging my WGR614 wireless router while it was starting up (or while the modem was still starting up --- it's a blur now!). The cable modem had dropped connection. After that no matter how many times I restart modem and router the router does not get to the internet (wireless & internet are not lit). Confirmed the modem works without router on main PC. I need router for second PC & wireless laptop. Should I press reset button and then what?

Thanks, SBA

What I needed to do was reset the router (tricky little 'button" /indentation at back of router). Internet connection held for a couple of minutes, then dropped. Repeated and quickly went to the netgear site using my gateway IP as the url, to set router with their wizard. Works now ! Found this from a similar question and response.

Probably not the router --- using it over a year, fine. May be recent Windows updates (Dec 9) or interference from new cordless phone near to router. thanks for suggestions. The cable also supplies digital phone --- it's a complicated world...

* Reset the router to factory default settings.. * access the router page using www.routerlogin.net * username - admin , password - password * run the setup wizard * it will automatically redirect you if the firmware of the router is not latest it will ask you to upgrade it .. * it will be automatic wizard so follow the instructions... * in case if it doesnt do that download the firmware from kb.netgear.com* configure the router then i hope so it will be working fine ..

Connected WGR614 v6 to DG814. Have internet light on, no wifi. Can't connect to the WGR614 via lan from pc. Tried to hard reset nothing happens. The PC and DG814 show connection to the WGR614 but can not...

Is this the initial set-up of the network? Sometimes it just needs to be rebooted a few times to connect. The way to reboot the network is to turn off the computers, then unplug the router, next unplug the modem. wait about 30/60 seconds then plug in the power to the modem. Wait for the modem to fully boot. Wait a minute or two, then plug in the power to the router. Wait till it has booted, another minute or two. Once the router is fully booted, then turn on the pc and check to see if it connects. If the computer was previously connected to the modem, before the router was incorporated, it still has the ip address assigned by the modem and has trouble releasing it and getting an ip address from the router.

Issue with router and ethernet cables

I imagine you reset/unplugged all of your routers, switches, and computers, starting with your modem, then router, and then each system?

There is a setup disk that need to be used to program your router with the ISP settings, passwords, and protocols for port forwarding, etc. I imagine you tried that.

Did you try all of your cables to make sure they weren't defective?

If you tried these, and the problem persists, the issue is a defective router. By default, the unit should transmit a wireless signal, and be ready to act as a routing switch for your other systems.

Netgear WGR614 v6 router drops connection

Hi, what ISP are you using (aol,tiscali...?), and how are you connecting to the router? Wired or wireless? I had similar problems with mine, it wouldn't connect or would drop connection, or loose all the settings. I updated the firmware to the latest from here:-
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614v6.asp

Be sure this is the correct model as firmware differes from model to model.
Then I had to manually configure my ISP settings etc. Or you may have software from your ISP which configures for you.
Hope this helps.

Losing connection with WGR614 v6 router

Well, glad I found someone with the same problem, the answer will certianly surprise you.
The answer is cordless phones and satellite interent.
if you have cordless phones and/or satellite internet it will lose signal.
They run on the same frequency.
To fix it log into your router, goto wireless settings, then check the box for enable channel settings. You may have to reboot the router and PC.
Should help.
Good luck and have a happy new year.
