Unplug it, let it sit an hour and retry. If not...call a repair shop. This is not a normal problem and there is no easy fix for it. It may clear the problem for now, by letting it sit. Like rebooting your PC.

Sounds like the door sensor switch is faulty. I don't know if the switch can be replaced but there is no harm in opening the DVD player up and trying to locate the switch. Portable DVD players have a lot of fragile plastic parts in them, especially the DVD door catch which can break very easily, rendering the player useless.

normally go to my computer and look for your player and click on eject,
but if this doesent work get a small paperclip and on the dvd player look for a small hole and insert it and press firmly and this will open the drive door ok. this should help you out ok?

we were watching a dvd and the unit shut off. We can't get the DVD door to open. Is there anything we can do to get the DVD to open and start playing a DVD?
try pressing options and select for ten seconds if that doesnt work you have a promblem with the door lock switch open then shut your door firmly try it again if that doesent do it try unplugging the unit for 5-8 seconds then retry if that doesnt do it then pull the bottom panel and look on the left side of the washer there will be a envelope with a tech sheet there with instructions on testing the door lock itself
there is a infra red emmiting diode inside that has failed. this is the diode just under the prism inside the unit. replace that and re-time the mode switch. the unit is not made by philips but by funai so no support can be given to you from philips. I've repaired close to 60 of these with the same problem you have.
I know that shortly after I purchased this tv mine also shut itself off occasionally. The owners manual says that if it is on dvd mode and it's paused or on an inactive menu or something for 15 minutes or so that it would shut itself off. If a dvd is stuck inside it may be causing this? I have no idea about the open/close malfunction.
These units have prepritary DVD units and cost anywhere from $30 - $200 for a replacement. If the cleaning disc didnt work more than likely its REALLY dirty or the pickup itself has malfunctioned.
