I have a pair of Bushnell 20x50 Powerview getting double vision. Can focus each side by themsleves but not together.

Sorry to say but it sounds as if the binoculars have suffered a jolt.

All bincoculars are collimated at the factory so they will focus together at a "central point".

Some Binocular dealers will check the collimnation prior to shipping.. and make adjustments as needed..

If the internal prisms were shifted out of place or the frame was bent.. chances are it will be cheaper to replace then to repair... if not impossible to repair.

Inspect the frame.. to check for any debris or loose fasteners.. but I am afraid that these will need to be replaced.

Best of luck

The strap fixing on one side has come adrift from the body of the binoculars

This needs to be returned to leica for repair. That lug is integral with the body and that is the only solution. The place that you bought them from should be able to give you further information on the return for warranty repair.

See two images at higher power.

Your binoculars are out of collimation. That means that the optical path needs to be aligned. Binoculars are designed so that the focus point of each barrel is the same over long and as short as possible distances. Binoculars that are properly aligned will still show a double image if you attempt to focus at something close that is too close for the models design. However this is not the same for long distances. The image at a long distance must not be doubled.

If they are under warranty and you haven't damaged them by dropping etc send them for repair to the manufacturer or ask the retailer where to send them.

If you are going to pay to have them fixed get a quote first. Binoculars that are of the zoom variety are not well thought of among binocular officionados as the quality of image degrades at higher magnification. For the price of repair you may be able to source a higher quality non zoom binocular.

Bausch and Lomb rubber eye cups

Bausch & Lomb was purchased by Bushnell in the 70's. Your elites are Japanese made and considered quite a good binocular. Bushnell continued to make the same binoculars bearing the Elite name but replaced B&L with Bushnell. The current elites are different shaped. You could contact Bushnell or you could go to a store in your area that may stock the older Bushnell Elites and try and see if the eyecups fit.

My Chinon 10x25R binoculars have the same problem.

Simple use soft lint free cloth like old drying up cloth, you need about half a cup of methalayted spirits, can get this from any hardware store.
poke finger into cloth dip into meths proceed to rub sticky coating off binoculars. you will need to keep changing to a new peace of the cloth as soon as it gets coated with the sticky black stuff off binoculars.
keep dipping into meths eventually after say 6 rubs in a particular area you will see and feel a nice hard black plastic, continue all over effected area then finish off with any window cleaner polish until cloth remains clean.STICKY COATING IS NOW GONE IT WAS INFACT A COATING PUT ON THE BINOCULARS TO MAKE THEM NONE SLIP. job done. regards GER8

Image appears double and slighly off when viewing

I was having a double vision problem with my Barska 10-30X50 zoom, 195FT/100YDS binoculars. One image was always higher than the other. This was tolerable at low zoom, but was further aggravated the more I zoomed in. I found that I could grasp both barrels and twist them in opposite directions (one side up, the other side down) and force the two images to merge--but that was a strain and an unpleasant viewing experience. As an experiment, while looking through the binoculars, I grasped the far end of the right barrel and twisted it on its axis. Nothing happened at first, but after a certain amount of resistance it began to rotate independently of the body. Lo and behold, this shifted the barrel's axis, and the image for that eye moved vertically! I turned it until the two images merged, and now I'm thrilled to say that the problem is solved! I don't have a clue if this would work on any other brand or model, but it's worth a try!

sorry to give you bad news , but most zoom binoculars are not worth cost to repair, they are made of either a small steel band or tiny metal gears to enable both sides to work simultaneously, once they are broken it is almost impossible to find matching parts. sorry....larry@reichinstruments.com
