Question about Dell Inspiron 1720 Notebook

1 Answer

My dell 1720 showes it has encountered a problem and shuts itself down, Sometimes after a few minuets and sometime as soon as you start it back up. It comes back on and showes to start up in safe mode. It is just over one year old and the only thing that has been added was the AVG Anti- Virus. I have disabled this trying to fix the problem.

First, remove any external devices connected (Ex. USB devices if connected) try to check if it restarts. Then try running the Diagnostic test:

1. Turn on computer
2. Continuously tap F12 (until it goes to boot menu)
3. Select Diagnostics
4. Finish the test

If all test passed no problems found it means it is a software problem, else it will generate an error code. Tell me the error code and we will determine which hardware is faulty.

Vizio E470i_A0 shutting off after loosing horizontal frame sync

It could be several things but I'd start with a main board, the fact its shutting off kind of drives me away from Tcon as that shouldn't shut the set down if there was an issue there, it also could be power supply, you could test the voltages from the board once it starts giving issues and if some are off then change the power board.

Vizio E480i-b2 LED TV loosing picture and sometimes shutting off

I don't think you had backlight issues like you thought you did as the set should have shut down the backlights totally as soon as it sensed over voltage or over current, I'd try a new main board and see if that fixes things up for you

What Could Cause My Computer To Shut Down For No Reason?

What brand of pc is this? Download a diagnostic program to test internal functions. Sounds like maybe a motherboard or power supply issue.

I have a dell inspiron 1100 approx 7 yrs old. Try to start up, no display. LCD for power and battery (ac power) light up, no hard drive light. Reseated everything, still nothing. Also shuts itself down...

Hi,

Since there is no hard drive light, you could try unplugging it first, and try to boot and see if there would be any display on the LCD. If yes, you already isolated the problem that it is the Hard drive causing the " no display".

Try to do also the following: (draining flea power)

1. Remove the battery and ac adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
3. Put back the battery and ac adapter
4. Turn on the computer

Hope to hear from you soon.

I purchased a 27'',Insignia tv about a yr 1/2 ago, it has been working fine till about 3 days ago, when it decides to shut down by it self. however, when i unplug the tv cord and replug, it comes back on....

To start unplugg it for a few hours, I know it sounds dumb but it will reset the set. If that does work get the TV on a surge protector. It would surprise me if this needs service beyond that, this brand is very service prone

Dell Dimension 9200 keeps shutting down and won't start up

the key issue on the uncommanded shutdown is the POWER LED. If upon shutdown, the power LED Flashes AMBER, then the power supply is suspect.

If no flashing amber indication, then the next think I check is the heatsink (Processor overheating) remove, clean and apply arctic Silver heat transfer paste, see if the issuje goes away

Last but not least if the system is failing to boot, and displays a 3 4 diag LED code, then you may have a RAM module that is bad or may just need reseating. Running diags off of the Rersoujrce CD is something to look at too
