Question about GE XL1800 1100 Watts Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave dying Whenever I try and use our microwave, it will start to work, then after about 10 sec the screen will flicker and make odd noises, then it shuts off. It comes back on, and says 'Check food' and 'Power loss' or something similar. My best guess for this is a worn/dead fuse, but I really have no idea. Our specific model is JVM1870CF

Yeah, this has been happening less more recently. The one thing I can think of that may have caused this is a magnet that was on the side right next to the screen. I moved it, and now it seems to be fine.

The magnetron has probably shorted, and in rare cases the power transformer will fail, "but unlikely"

I have a panasonic convection/microwave. Last night, after I cleaned it, using oven cleaner on a sponge, it made a loud humming noise after running on microwave for about 10 sec. It does not make the noise...

Since the unit makes the noise on Microwave but not convection it is a problem it he Microwave Circuit. Probably in either the rectifier of bad mag, one of them shorted. Just looked at the date you posted this, Im sure you have fixed or replaced this by now

GE PVM2070SMSS Microwave, Unit runs for a sec then shuts off.

Obvious thing is to try plugging in a different receptacle to verify if it might be bad wiring in your kitchen. Make sure to use a different circuit, maybe in different room. If it is the circuit, then likely cause is those plugs with push in back wiring. Replace with ones that wire screws to.

EVERYTHING WORKS NO NOSIES SOUNDS LIKE IT IS WORKING WILL NOT HEA

could be the power fuse inside the microwave, you have to remove the casing to access these.large power fuse would seem to be the problem, this is normally 10 amps but could be 13 amp. there is also a control fuse that control the power relays
if this is blown the relays could be at fault

...have Danby 1.0 cu. ft.

When talking about "Power Level", there is a misconception that the cooking power is being adjusted. This is not the case. The user is actually adjusting the duty cycle of the Magnetron. For instance at 30%, the Magnetron will be turned on for 20 sec. and off for 40 sec. A loud 60 cycle hum is usually caused by a shorted Magnetron. Thus the unit is not economically repairable.

GE Spacemaker making odd noise

We are having the same problem with our XL1400. I suspect it has something to do with the turn table but don't know for sure. We would be willing to disconnect the turn table...anything to stop the noise but don't know how.
