The Philips DVD Burner in my PC is not being recognized when any type of disc is placed into it. Like right now I am trying to burn a Movie File (which is legal) onto a disc but it keeps coming up that a Disc is Not Recognized in your DVD Burner.I have three separate Burning softwares downloaded but with the disc not being recognized none of them begin to Burn the Movie File. What could be casing this recognize problem?

Phil,
Sometimes the read/write head collects dust and causes such problems. Please eject the DVD and clean the shiny dot that is there on the tray. This should solve the problem.
If this does not solve the problem then from the Control Panel->Add Remove Programs uninstall this device and after a reboot, reinstall it. I hope you have the CD that came with this device. Use it. Then reboot again and this should definitely solve the problem.

Down loaded flip video to disc. Disc will not play on TV but will play on computer

Hello. There are a few factors as to what would allow or disallow the disc to play. The main reason is going to be the file type the video was saved as. Your computer will have an easy time playing because it can recognize the file type. As for DVD players or TV's with built in DVD players the device will have be able to recognize the file type and know how to play it. For example some DVD players may play a DivX movie but not an AVI. So your player probably doesn't recognize the file type you are wanting it to play. One other possibility is the disc wasn't finalized when burned.

WHEN I BURN A MOVIE IT WON'T SHOW UP ON DVD DISC

Sounds like it may have burned the movie file as a data DVD.

In other words, the file gets burned to the DVD just like a Word doc or spreadsheet would, rather than encoded as a movie.

You need to check what format you downloaded it in - it may need conversion before burning as a movie DVD.

You can run a quick web search for *** (your current file format - mpg, divx, etc.) to DVD and find a free utility for conversion.

Then your burning software should be able to burn it as a movie DVD, ready for your player.

After burning the DVD once,

Several possible solutions.

1. If you are using DVD-R discs, your player probably does not support them. There are known compatibility issues with DVD-R discs. If your burner supports it, use DVD+R discs.
2. Try burning at the slowest possible speed. That can help your player pick up the disc better.
3. Did you remember to put a menu in the beginning of your movie? Even if you have the disc set to skip the menu when inserted, it still must exist for some DVD players to recognize it as a disc and play it.

My Philips DVD8421 burner will not recognize a blank DRD-R disc.

Ok, the reason is quite simple. The Philips DVD8421 does not recognise the DVD-R format. Not all DVD/CD burners read all discs. It does recognise DVD+R though. So all you need to do is use these discs instead. This should solve your problem.

Hope that helps.

Dvd

depending on what the file you have theres several ways .You didn't say whether you want to copy or make a dvd movie so i'll give you a few ideas get nero once installed then you need a dvd writer-not a dvd rom the rom will only read and the write will write then get some dvd r+ or dvd rw + insert if you want to burn a file from your pc like a dvd movie which is in dvd format, not an avi file from a torrent site but a dvd rip then place a new dvd in your burner select nero and tell it to burn the dvd with the options for dvd if you want to copy a dvd use nero's options to copy there are other programs you can use it's all up to you
