Question about Gateway GT5656 Desktop PC

1 Answer

My PC has started to shut off without warning. I could be playing left for dead or sometimes just normal browsing, or even sitting idle. I Changed PSUs and Reformatted and reinstalled Vista and it just happened again. I believe I have some faulty hardware, maybe video card? or memory. I know that you can test memory using such as memtest86 but I put that on a cd and it would never boot to the test. Is there a way to test other components? Videocard or other motherboard components? Perhaps my CPU is overheating? I measured my core temp after the shutdown and my cps cores were at 59C/54C. Its a gateway gt5656 other than Video card it is stock. Video card is EVGA 8600gt 256mb. Any help is appreciated.

I have since removed my video card and enabled onboard video and still have had it shut off...
I dont understand how the oboot disk works, Ive extracted the files to a cd and rebooted and it still boots to vista. As for the Heavyload program, if it causes the PC to shut down, Ill lose the data wont I? how will I know what component caused the shutdown?

The first thing i would try is hiren's boot cd. Here is a link to the free software. On it you will find a memory test and a hard drive test.

you may also want to try testing your video card and onboard video with heavy load here is a link to that software as well. This is a stress test that will push your pc to its limits. should help you identify the issue if memoery and hdd pass.

you have to unpack the cd then compile it as an iso. Lot's of freeware available to do this. such as iso buster (free trial) then after you create the image burn it to a disc using image burn then boot to the cd before windows starts. If you are sill having issues using on board then you know its either a powersupply issue, memory stick. hard drive, motherboard, or software corruption.

"Warning Lights" on the dashboard of "1995 Nissan Maxima"

The warning lights coming on with the key in the on position is normal. If the key is turned to the start position and the engine will not crank over, suspect an internal starter motor problem or lack of power to the starter solenoid. You can try tapping on the starter motor with a blunt object while someone holds the key in the crank position to see if it starts when this problem occurs. If it starts using this procedure, the starter motor will be defective

How to browse without antivirus and keep your computer safe

after browsing or even inserting an infected drive to your pc, do not shut down the system normally like clicking on start and clicking on shut down all you need do is just to hold down the on/off button till the pc offs.
the reason is that if you shut down normally, the system will save the current settings and some viruses will go and embed with some system file and this can affect the system.

Kia Rio cutting off

im assuming that changed the oil unit you mean sending unit ? if so could be electric short in the pick tail or worse wiring harness. second there is also possoble vacum leak .third while unit was being replaced something didnt get put back or got knocked loose. created a new problem. most times as thing are going bad they dont register until it is a prolonged problem as it took 2 days for the check engine to go out that also might have been normal. you might also notice while sitting at park when you turn the wheel you will notice ia differance in the idle, if its almost stalling then its probley your idle, needs re set, or your idle controle valve is going bad ,did it get checked or cleaned when they serviced the throttle body. and also could be your mass air flow sensor going bad or need cleaned

Dell Laptop shuts off

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter to the laptop. See if it still shuts off on you at random.

If it still does then try another AC Adapter and if it still shuts down randomly then it might be a motherboard issue.

Take a can of air and blow it into the air vents on your laptop. This will remove any dust or debris that might be affecting air flow.

If that doesn't do it then the only other thing to try would be to take apart the laptop and where the heatsink sits on top of the CPU, take the heatsink off and make sure there is no dirt or dust buildup on it. If there is buildup on there that would cause the laptop to shut down without warning cause that means its not cooling like normal.

At this point if you went thru all of this and you still get shutdowns then the motherboard is bad

Is it really dying?

It's possible the battery is dead, but the phone may also be too full of old files/msgs/pics/applications/games etc... the phone needs a certain amount of memory to function.
Try another battery or a new one, if it starts do an update of the phone software (firmware). You can do this yourself, but it may be better left to a repair/sales shop.

You need to download the latest Samsung PC Studio to do an update on your phone.
Before updating software you should check that there’s a newer version of software available.

When updating software on Mobs, be sure to:
And obviously don’t unplug the phone from the PC.
Be patient, you may have to do a restart or two on your mob afterwards. Even remove the battery to get it going again (not recommended). But give it plenty of time.
It is also wise not to use your PC while updating software, just in case the PC freezes.
If the PC freezes during an update, you’re up the creek without a paddle...

I did an update on a Sony Eric 810i it took nearly two hours.
More... Your phone turns itself on and off, sometimes more than once while updating software, you should leave it well alone during the update.
