Well of course, I have changed the cartridge and run all the diagnostic checks for the printer. Deep cleaning, nozzle check and print head alignment. I think the purge needs cleaning and would prefer...

A full or saturated purge wouldn't cause the 3bk to stop printing.
The 3bk cartridge as I recall is a rather short lived cartridge to begin with, and I seem to recall people saying things like "It's brand new" and then I find out that brand new to them meant 2 weeks old, which is enough tome to deplete one of those things, ESPECIALLY if you do a deep cleaning (that really sucks back the ink).
Horrible as it may sound, I still think the cartridge is at fault.

How to clean a Clogged/Blocked Print Head/Cartridge..

If you fault is according to user manual, a defective Print Head/Cartridge... The Print Head/Cartridge., maybe so clogged, and clogged up so deep that can not be cleaned in the normal way. Then, the printer can not communicate with the computer at this point. So you can't send the cleaning command to printer.
Here's what to do:
1. remove all the Print Head(s)/Cartridge(s).
2. Take out the Print Head/Cartridge. by releasing the lock lever. Look in the "Easy Setup Instruction" Step to find the location. Obtain a manual. (You can download it from manufacturers web site)
3. Put the Print Head/Cartridge. in a plastic zip lock bag. (Test the bag is air tight.)
4. Soak the covered Print Head/Cartridge. in hot water (hottest setting of the tap) for 5 minutes. The high temperature will soften up the clogged ink.
5. Immediately install thePrint Head/Cartridge. (Must be be dry) in the printer, and install all the ink cartridges.
6. Turn on the printer. If this works, you should not have a working printer, Now then, Most Important. Start the cleaning process from the computer. Run the cleaning several times to deep clean it.

Installed new black ink cartridge, message keeps coming up that I need a new cartridge. I have cleaned, restarted my computer, everything I can think of. It still will not print. The message says to...

Even new cartridges can prove to be faulty; even more so ones that have be refilled. If you have exhausted the options in the print software (i.e. Test Print, Print Alignment, Head Cleaning, etc.) and the reseating of the cartridge a few times, then depending on your will for either try:
1. Go to the store and replace the cartridge telling them you think its faulty.
2. Firstly, Unplug the Printers connecting cable (USB, DB25, etc.).Then uninstall both the Printing software and Printer drivers (usually the same package) under "Add Remove Programs" (Windows OS). Restart the computer, then reinstall the Printer software (following the prompts on exactly when to reconnect the printer to the computer, *Important*), and then restart again.

Cartridge error 1203

First of all, please verify each cartridge carrier has an ink cartridge :
  1. Check to make sure the left cartridge carrier contains a black or photo ink cartridge.
  2. Check to make sure the right carrier contains a color ink cartridge.
  3. Remove each cartridge and examine it to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the contacts and the print head.
  4. Replace each cartridge in the proper carrier.
Step 2 :

Wicking the cartridges and cleaning the contacts on the back of the cartridge should be performed if the nozzle clean was performed and the quality was not satisfactory.
Wicking the Cartridge
  1. Ensure the printer is powered on.
  2. Lift the scanner unit.
  3. Open the cartridge latches and remove the cartridges from the carrier (Figure 1).
  4. cartout922%281%29.jpg
Figure 1: Removing the Cartridges from the Printer
  5. Take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the nozzle of the print cartridge from front to back (Figure 2).

    Figure 2: Proper Cleaning Direction
new_note.jpg Note: Never wipe the cartridges from side to side, as this causes cross-contamination in color cartridges.
Cleaning the Contacts
  1. Turn the cartridge so that you are looking at the contacts on the back side of the cartridge (Figure 3).
  2. cartridge_back_contacts.jpg
Figure 3: Turning the Cartridge To View the Back Contacts
  3. Using a clean dry cloth, wipe the contacts in the direction shown (Figure 4), so that no dust or other contaminants are visible.
  4. new_note.jpg Note: Do not use the same cloth that was used to clean the cartridge nozzles. This may cause more contamination on the cartridge.

Figure 4: Cleaning the Contacts on the Back of the Cartridge
  5. Clean the contact inside the printer with the dry cloth used to clean the cartridge contacts.
  6. Replace the cartridges in the carrier and close the scanner unit.
  7. Print the document again.
  8. If the print quality does not improve, repeat the steps for cleaning the nozzles and contacts up to two more times as needed.

My photo colors are horrible. I am using HP

It sounds like you need to run the head cleaning utility. If you click on the manager software there will be a tab or button that will say head cleaning. It varies depending on what printer and versions etc. You can also check your manual for step by step instructions. Run the clean cycle several times not just once or twice. You will see improvement with every clean cycle.

If the cleaning cycle doesn't improve it enough the next step is to use q-tips dipped in white vinegar to gently clean the print head. This takes a bit of care but can restore the quality to like new. The vinegar dissolves the dried ink. You need to remove the ink cartridges and then gently wipe the bottom of the print head until it comes clean. This is the where the head touches the paper not the cartridge side. It might be a little hard to get to. You can also try a piece of lint free paper towel with vinegar on it and then manually pull the print head back and forth across the towel. It won't take much before the head is cleaned.

Past that point it is going to be a hardware problem and is generally way cheaper just to get a replacement printer.

Printer will not print black ink

Hi please try these steps:::

Right-click the printer icon, and then select 'Properties'.
2. Click the 'Maintenance' tab, and then click 'Deep Cleaning'.

maintdeep.jpg

3. Select 'All Colors', 'Black' or 'Color' for the print head to be cleaned.

allcolorsorblack.jpg

4. Read the message displayed, and then click 'OK'. The power lamp blinks and print head deep cleaning starts. (Do not perform any other operations until print head deep cleaning is complete. Print head deep cleaning takes about 1 minute.)

IF ABOVE STEPS DOESN'T WORK TRY THESE STEPS BELOW

Check ink tank vent hole The ink tank requires air to flow through it so ink can move from the reservoir to the print heads.

  1. Confirm there is no orange tape across the top of the ink tank

  2. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (1), it is properly removed.

    ink_tank_tape.jpg

    *BCI-3's shown in this example.

  3. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (2), remove the remaining tape to the level shown in Figure (1).

  4. Make sure each ink tank is snapped into the printer.

IF THESE STEPS DIDNOT WORK THEN YOUR PRINTER NEEDS REPAIR(You might need to change the printer head.)
