Answering system records message after hang up

I have an answering system problem with my Uniden DECT2188-5. Ring time is set to Toll Saver, thus two rings if there is a message and four if not. That means if there is no message when I call in, I hang up right after three rings. The problem is that every time I do that, the system records a short, blank message; i.e., it's not cutting off after the third ring. The question is, why? I have a digital cable phone line (Bresnan) and they say the line and connection to the cable modem are great, hence the problem has to be with the phone answering system (this did not happen when I had a separate ATT phone and Code-a-Phone answering machine, up to about 2 months ago). Short of going to a straight 4-ring setting, any ideas about how to get it working right? Thanks.

    Yes, I hear two rings, tho you may be onto something. When there is no message, I typically hang up between the second and third rings, though it can be tight. It may be that the home phone is ringing ahead of what I hear. However, that doesn't quite explain why it records a short blank message, which shouldn't occur until after four rings and the message playing, i.e., as if it's not hanging up on the receiving end.

One thing to try and take note of is when the message does pick up on the "two ring" message present part do you hear on your side two full rings before the pick up?
It may be that the primary ring starts on the home side as does happen sometimes with VOIP service. If you are only hearing 1 or 1 1/2 rings before the message picks up then you might try hanging up after the second full ring thus knowing no messages are present and it should overcome your problem.

My uniden xdect sse25 cordless doesn't ring for long enough before diverting to the answer machine I have mobility problems how can i extend the length of the ring


From the handset, press Select/Menu and then press the down arrow to get to Ans Setup. Press Select again. Go down to Ring Time. Then select the number of rings (6, 9, 12 or Toll Saver (TS)). Press Select then press Flash/Exit to exit the menu system. Toll Saver picks up after 2 rings if you have new messages or 4 rings if you don't. This lets you hang up before the answering system picks up if you are using the remote phone access feature.

Note: if you have Voice Mail from your telephone provider, you need to set that to a longer number of rings separately. Consult with your phone company on that option.

There should be a switch towards the bottom on the right hand side
Setting ring time switch The ring time/toll saver switch allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before the answering system plays your outgoing message. You can set the switch to answer af ter two rings or af ter four rings. Once the greeting has star ted, you can stop it when you pick up the call at the handset or base. In the TS (Toll Saver) position, the answering system picks up af ter two rings if you have new messages, and af ter four rings if there is none. This way, if you call long distance to check your messages, you can hang up af ter the third ring to avoid billing charges.

Hi There my uniden 5.8GHz Digital rings only twice before answer machine starts how do i extent the time of ringing? thanks


For the TRU9380, you can set the number of rings for the answering system from the handset. Press Menu/Clear and select Answ Setup. Then choose the Ring Time submenu. Move the cursor to select the number of rings (Toll Saver, 2, 4 or 6 Times). Press Select to save the setting; you will hear a confirmation tone. (Note: the answering machine must be on.) In Toll Saver, it picks up after 2 rings if you have new messages and after 4 rings, otherwise.

Looks like 6 is the Max, according to the Manual.

Setting the Ring Time
Ring Time allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before your
answering system plays the outgoing message. You can set the ring time to answer
after two, four, or six rings. If you enable the Toll Saver (TS), the answering system
picks up after two rings if you have new messages and after four rings if there are
none.
1) Enter the Answ. Setup menu, and then the Ring Time
submenu (see "Entering the Menu Option" on
page 16).
2) Press volume up/down to select a Ring Time (Toll
Saver, 2 Times, 4 Times, or 6 Times).
3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.

Toll saver is a feature where you can call the phone yourself, if there are messages it wil answer in 2 rings, if not it'll answer in 4 rings. The idea is to hang up on the 3rd ring and save the LD changes.
