Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Diagonal snow has developed on the screen lately. We have a digital cable box, but calling for a signal boost doesn't help. Is the TV going bad, or the cable box?

You can almost guess that the problem is a bad ground on your coaxial cord. A very very common problem. You may have to many connections...a vcr,DVD player, a video game box etc. all connected to the tv and cable box. Make sure everything is tight and then remove one of the aux video connections to see if you cet a clear picture. The best connections are the ones that twist on...the slide in coaxials are not always the best. You may also need new coaxial cables too! Good Luck!

Scrolling diagonal lines

The cable box signal on the components video have a too high refresh rate frequency, that is the reason for the lines.
Use RCA cables or an alternative connection.
Other solution is changing the display out settings for cable box (from PAL to NTSC etc.)

My dynex lcd tv keeps saying no signal when cable is plugged in?

It sounds like the CATV portion of the TV tuner is bad--Cable band.

You may have an option---with a cable box that has the audio/video jacks for output of signal on its rear side connect to a unused video input on rear of set--go to that input and change channel via the box---BY PASS THE TUNER IN THE SET THIS WAY.

Tv getting snow & static sounds on all channels.

This TV, I believe, does not have a digital tuner. If you're trying to pick up channels off the air with rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna, you'll need a digital converter box. Without one, there aren't any channels for it to tune in, so all you'll get is snow and static.

If you have a converter, or are using this TV with a cable box, satellite receiver or a similar device, you may have a bad connecting cable. Be sure the cable is firmly connected and that the center pin isn't bent or too short for a good contact. It should extend an eighth of an or so past the end of the connector. Try another cable.

If this set has been working properly and the trouble is new, something is up with the tuner. It may have been damaged during a storm or from power line problems. Poor solder connections may have developed on the circuit board. Other electronic failures may have occurred. If the trouble appears to be inside the TV, it's probably not worth repairing. The replacement cost of a small TV would be not much more (if not even less!) than the labor and parts to fix it.

I hope this has helped. if so, please take a moment to give a thoughtful rating. Thanks for using Fixya!

The picture seems very coarse and has diamonds running across it

Hello: In standard defintion the picture is showing in 480p which is the lowest resolution for LCD televisions, The picture will only look as good as the signal its getting, If you have cable then it should look some what better even with std defintion. The Diamonds/triangles are caused from a weak digital signal or weak broadcast station. This is a normal occurance for LCD televisions as the picture is put on the screen in blocks. I would not say your television is bad, just a poor or weak signal, If you are using a digital antenna and not cable, then you might try purchasing a signal amplifier to boost the signal before going into the set.

First we have find out if it's the set or the signal, So does this tv have snow on all inputs or just on cable? if just the cable try a another tv in its spot, if the problem continue mabe a call to the cable company is in order, I know that many cable problems come from bad conections or loosing a grounding point were the cable enters the house, Now if the problem shows up when watching a DVD or other video source it may be the tv's fault. Most likley a voltage is droping and need to be repaired perty quickly. What some people see as snow we see as a low VA voltage that is putting stress on a control board
