In addition to all these excellent suggestions don't plug your computer in with the battery installed every time you need to use it. Most manufacturers don't recommend uninstalling the battery (unplugging it) while using it. The truth is, though, this repeated charge and discharge cycle from plugging in your laptop will significantly drain the life of your battery because it is only good for so many charge cycles. So if you're in a situation where you don't need to use the battery unplug it and just use AC power. Also don't always run the battery completely dead when using it. It is best for modern li-ion batteries to be charged to full when they still have 15-20% power still left in them. About every 10 discharge cycles it is best to run the battery completely dead as this will reset the battery meter in the computer so that it can read the available charge more accurately.

Usually, when you purchase a laptop, there must be instructions on the use of battery and how many hours to charge before its first use. Mostly, a battery must be charged and not be plugged out 6-12 hours. And that would be enough to gauge longer battery life.
So to those ones who are planning to buy their own, charge your battery on that span of time to ensure longer battery life.
Thanks...

How long should battery last on one charge

It depends upon the type of usage. In a technical review, a battery test was performed where they disable power management, maximized the screen brightness and enabled the wireless radio while looping video files, it lasted 1hr 33min. This is an extreme, and using power management and turning down or off items not needed, the battery life will be longer. Mileage varies by user.

Make Your Own Power Plan

Windows laptops include a few preset power plans for maximizing battery life, but you can also customize your operating system's power-management features (in Windows XP, under Power Options in the Control Panel; in Vista, under Mobile PC in the Control Panel). Setting aggressive targets for when the display turns off and when the machine goes into sleep or hibernate mode will help your battery last longer...

Extend your battery life on your laptop, do not leave it plugged in and charging all of the time. When a laptop is constantly charging, it will deplete the cells on the battery. Two ways to combat this, charge your laptop fully and remove the battery while it is plugged in, or you can run your laptop on battery power a few times a week until the battery dies.

Hi, i have a portable dvd player & the battery is 2 hours. now it only lasts 30 minutes. is there something i csn do to boost it or do i need a new battery. thank you, medina

Your best bet is simply to replace it with a more reliable battery. However, starting the dvd player without a disc so that the settings appear should allow you to change the options on the DVD player. This should allow for the brightness and picture settings to be adjusted to preserve battery to the best of the DVD players ability.

Step One: Remove Disc
Step Two: Turn On DVD Player
Step Three: Enter Settings
Step Four: Adjust the picture and screen settings to maximize the battery life (make the screen less bright for an example)

There may be a setting specifically meant to maximize battery life. Hope This Helps.

Hi, when you purchase a laptop, or you have a laptop with good battery life, once a month unplug the mains and use the laptop until the 'battery needs recharging' warning appears, or until the laptop 'dies' then recharge the laptop as usual. You can continue to use the laptop whilst recharging is in process. This will help keep your laptop battery in good condition. It doesn't matter if its a NiCad, Lipo or Lithium Ion battery, they DO all have battery memory and benefit from this process.

My n73 battery always discharges. what is this problem?

maybe your battery is too worn out and we know that the battery has life expectancies. try to have a new one, an original one to help you maximize the battery life. do not overcharge your battery for it may shorten the life span.

All batteries have a limited number of load cycles, so if your battery/laptop is older or has been used intensively, this could happen.
You can try draining it completely, and then loading it completely, but it will probably not recover completely.
Make sure to save power when running on battery with laptops to maximize the battery life.

Vista loads fast in safe mode but relly slow in normal mode

Not surprising -- "safe" mode bypasses the loading (reading from your disk-drive and running and self-configuring) of many device-drivers.

Check the "power" settings -- sometimes, a laptop may deliberately run slowly, to maximize the life of the battery, even when the AC adapter is plugged-in. Select "maximum performance" settings.
