Question about Brother 1034D Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Gathering foot Not Gathering.

I have a Brother 1034D Serger New out of the box. I tried out the stitches and it works great. But the Gathering is not so great.. I have set the settings to spec. What may be the problem. The machine seems to have a mind of its own when it wants to gather or not.

Re: gathering foot Not Gathering.

Check the amount of pressure on foot, it might be too much for the type of material, that sometimes makes it gather

How do I set machine to sew a gather stitch with a regular presser foot (like the old Singer)

You need to make a row or two of long stitches and then pull up the bobbin threads. For best results use the longest stitch you have (probably 6) then set the tension for half of that.
If you have a gathering foot then follow the instructions for that.

Hi i just got a new brother 1034D serger. And I'm

I found that I had to remove the stitch finger to thread the machine properly. Do remember to re-install it before starting to sew. If you are using 3-threads only, then remove and store the stitch finger.
Puzzled that this instruction is not in the threading section of the manual.

Does the XL 3200 have a gathering stitch?

You will need a gathering foot, a shirring foot or a ruffler -

You can however, gather without these accessories.

Lay crochet thread down the line you want to gather and zig-zag over it anchoring one end and then pull up the gathers.

Another method is to make long stitches and pull the thread to gather.

Make a sample with the same fabric you will be gathering to see which technique works best for you.

My 1034D Brother Serger foot raiser lever on

mine just did the same thing - i opened it up (you have to remove the light) and it's a small plastic piece that seems to be just glued into place to lift the pressure foot when it rotates... a bit disappointing - i will try glueing it back but i don't know if it will last for long. i am very disappointed!!!
