Question about RCA DRC8300N DVD Recorder/VCR
The tray won't come out. You can hear it click, but nothing happens We took it apart and it will open as long as the metal plate is off.
Press the open button, and quickly lift the unit 1 inch and drop it. This overcomes the strength of the magnet and allows the door to open.

I had the exact same problem. There is a centering fixture above the spindle in the drive, that suspends from the metal plate. The fixture has a couple of metal disks in the center, one of them is a magnet. What I found was that the magnet was too strong, holding onto the spindle, preventing the spindle from dropping so that the tray could eject. The problem probably exists with the force applied to drop the spindle, but I didn't know how to fix that. I put several layers of clear tape on the magnet, to reduce its pull. Trimmed the tape as close as possible to the size of the magnet, to keep it balanced; the magnet turns with the spindle. Tray now opens.
