Keyboard replacement problem

I am trying to install a new keyboard on my Travelmate 4020 but I broke the plastic retention clip that secures the ribbon cable to the motherboard. I need to know where I can get the clip (and it's technical term) and how to install it.

That's fine but I've already bought the new keyboard. So, if anyone knows where I can find the keyboard ribbon cable clip (and knows it technical name), I would be very appreciative. I find it hard to believe that there is no place where I can buy one.

    Thanks!

In these kind of problems, especially if its a laptop, you should send back your laptop to the manufacturer for them to fix it coz the parts are not really sold in stores and they are the only guys providing these computer parts.. and you don't have to worry about the installation coz they willd do it for you..

How to Remove Replace and Install Your Toshiba Qosmio X505 Laptop Keyboard

1. View the back of your Toshiba X505 Keyboard. If the laptop keyboard has screw holes, then you now you need to remove screws from the bottom base of your plastic bezel. If the keyboard does not have any screw holes, then screws are usually not required to be removed from the bottom of the laptop.
2. Now that you have determined if screws are required to be removed from your Toshiba X505 laptop keyboard, we will now pry the keyboard out using a thin object. The first step is to view the top of the keyboard area, also known as the keyboard plastic bezel. If your keyboard has a plastic bezel above your keyboard, you will need to pry it out. If you don't have a plastic bezel above your keyboard, then you can take a think object. Place the thin object between your Toshiba X505 laptop keyboard and the plastic bezel, and pry out the keyboard.
3. Now that your Toshiba X505 keyboard has been removed your will need to disconnect the Toshiba X505 keyboard cable ribbon from the motherboard. There is usually pins connected to the Toshiba X505 motherboard that need to be pushed up/down. Once the keyboard connector cable has been removed from the Toshiba X505 laptop keyboard, remove the keyboard.
4. We will now install your new Toshiba X505 laptop keyboard.
5. Reconnect the Toshiba X505 keyboard to the motherboard. Insert the Toshiba X505 Keyboard back into the motherboard. Secure the pins and push the pins in. I broke the plastic clip on the MOBO that secures the keyboard connector

Jason Hunter,

Unfortunately, you would need to replace the motherboard. There is no specific part number for the plastic clip. You can contact the Dell Spare Parts Department at 1-877-717-3355 or visite the website link below.

ACER TRAVELMATE 602TER: NEED TO REPLACE CMOS BATTERY. WHERE IS IT LOCATED? IF UNDER KEYBOARD, HOW DO I LIFT THE KEYBOARD (I DON'T SEE ANY SCREWS OR A FRAME AROUND THE KEYBOARD!) THE ONLY PIECE...

most netbooks allow the keyboard to be lifter out ,,upwards after inserting a thin piece of plastic/screwdriver at the reccommended points around the keyboard, usually there are tiny sprung clips that need to be pushed, you can hardly see them ,be carefull if you manage to lift the board out be gentle and do not tug or force it as it will be connected with a ribbon type cable to a very fragile plastic clip/socket.
Even this socket/clip will have another plastc sprung device holding the ribbon cable in so be carefull with it.
The CMOS battery is just like a watch battery held to the motherboard with a steel sprung clip, you might have to unscrew the motherboard first rarely this battery might be soldered in place so you might need to have an iron handy.

Replace keyboard on acer 8100 series laptop

Replace the inside of the keyboard with a new piece. One of the major problems with Dell keyboards is that the plastic pieces holding the keys in place become loose or broken. You can find a cheap keyboard from Papatek.com or an electronics store. Simply take apart the new keyboard, pull the keys off your keyboard, lay the plastic piece on top and replace your keys.

Gateway m-7301u 15.4 widescreen keyboard problem

The keyboard would need to be replaced because once the plastic tactiles are messed around with they loose there shape plus the metal pieces that the plastic tactiles stay on get bent as well which means the keys won't stay on as well and stay looser then normal, thats why its suggested to get a new keyboard.

Battery location

hmmm..those are truly hard to find, the clips...

also, the bios password can be accessed on startup by using F2, then you'll see that option inside the bios setup.

those batteries are usually inside, under the bottom plastic panel. some others are under the palm rest, either way, you need to open up the whole unit.
