Generally the timer flashing means that ethier a programme for recording is set to record or wrong information is added. You need to check the timer record menu to see if a recording is schedule. I suggest you might need to get a remote for the model or get a universal one. Placing a blank tape in a powering down, should see the timer stop, but if a recording schedule is there it will still be on. The only way to clear it (without the remote) might to let it record! You don't give the make or model so I can't say anymore.
Thank you. I did fix the problem. Reviewed the instruction manual for the Samsung VCR and removed the SAFE reading on the VCR by just holding down the TV-VCR button on the RCA universal remote for several seconds which then released the frozen menu screen. From there I was able to reprogram the TV using the instructions and codes for the RCA universal remote. I still have to reprogram the VCR.
"paison" was correct and his solution did work for me. Make sure you first select TV on your remote. Now hold down the dvd/vcr button at the bottom of your remote while also holding down the "volume down" button on th front of the TV. Hold until a "Blue Reset Menu" appears on the screen and say the timer has been reset. Noe just follow the on screen instructions.
