I have also a similar problem. My laptop is Toshiba A80. It some time can not turn on. When power button pressed, there is continuous sounds (dit ...dit...dit....), fan is off, and nothing happen with the screen, just black. I try to remove the memory, but still happen. If I turn it off and on several time, sometime (If I'm lucky) than it's on and run normally. I also try to change the harddisk but I think no effect. could anyone help me what happen with my laptop?

Hi,
Thats a pretty old notebook now so not surprising it isn't working.
First thing to check is that the power supply is still working in the notebook as from memory it was built into the notebook back then so there would only be an AC input socket on the back of the notebook. Does an Amber light come on when plugged into power?
Does the laptop make a sound when you turn it on, either just the fan or hard drive spinning, or does it make any beeps?
If it does indeed power up, I would check that the RAM module is seated well and it's contacts are clean.
Due to it's age it's probably not worth trying many other things as it would cost more in parts than the notebook is worth.
