Question about Acer Aspire 4520-5803 Laptop
I have Acer 4520, Windows Vista Home Premium. My webcam just stopped working one day, for no reason! I called tech support at Acer and he hung up on me instead of doing any type of troubleshooting at all! I try to open it and it says, ''Camera not found!''. I tried to uninstall and re-install--still not under Device Manager. Also, there is no light. And, finally, when I look it up under Control Panel, it is there, and the date it was downloaded, but under Size----nothing! Please tell me how to fix this. I have no money. I need to fix it so I can get a job as a distance educator! :(
Hmm a bit odd for acer to just hang right up like that however their site does have driver files online for the aspire 4520 once the driver files for the acer crystal eye cam is installed reboot and see if it works if not let me know ASAP i have an acer aspire 5920 had the same issues (but ironicly able to run windows 10 no hitch with the camera)

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
Here's a link to this great service

Make sure that the usb drivers do not have conflick right click on my computer and go to propertys open the device manager and see if there are any conflick of driver unistall the camera and drivers for the camera restart the laptop ad the setup disk and follow the prompts to reinstall the drivers if you dont have a setup disk download the driver and put them on a disk ,if you install from a disk you will have less chance of conflick than you would if you just down load and install from the internet.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. If you don't have drivers the link is at http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles%5CDriver/Camera/Camera_Suyin_18.104.22.1680_Vistax86.zip?acerid=633639037841030905&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%205920&OS=V10&LC=en&SC=AAP_2

okay, so after a lot of frustration because I don't know much about computers at all, I think I have it fixed. I went into control panel - programs and features, and selected the camera. Then if you go to change, you can fix it with the previous program. It seems to have worked for me! I wish I could be more specific, but I really was just shooting in the dark. Hope this works for you!

windows 7 has a compatibility program built in for addressing those issues from the previous operating system(XP)
go to start and in the search window
type in compatibility
this program will help you by running the program to test its functionality,
it will bring up a list of programs and ask you to select the program your having issues with,
then it will give your operating systems and service packs to test against,
at the end it will ask you if you want to save these settings.Y/N?
If the program runs ok then save the settings and it should continue to work from there.
Shut down and restart should embed these settings ,
Test again for function,
If no luck run the program again
You say that your system is dual booting, why?
windows 7 leaves XP for dust,
remove xp its taking up valuable space on your hard drive and possibly interfering with your systems operations,
Normally the hard drive will only allow one operating system on it,even if you have partions.
Fine tuning is all your looking for so let us know your outcome thanks
If you do a windows back up
which system is it going to back up?
normally it will write over the last backup you made and the new one replaces it,

Suggest this problem may be resolved by restoring the webcam's drivers
The acer aspire one has a hidden partition with installation files to restore
1. the operating system to its factory default
2. applications (selectable)
3. drivers (selectable)
1. click on start at bottom left of Taskbar
2. hover cursor over All Programs then Acer Empowering Technology
3. click on Acer eRecovery Management
4. click on Reinstall applications/drivers
5. go to the row for the webcam and click the install icon on the right
