I have had 2 in six months cracked. They always crack right at the top under the flange that holds it in place.

I have the exact same problem. Two filters have cracked in less than a year. My kitchen floor has flooded twice. The filter model is GE SmartWater MSWF. Is there another brand that's compatible with my refrigerator?

Same here. Water flooded into Living and Dining room. Thousands of $$ of damage. It cracked near the end connected to the fridge. Now we are so paranoid, we turn the water to the fridge off when we are gone.

It looks like the problem is more wide-spread than just the filter in a refridgerator. I had a GE faucet water filter model GXFM03C. It worked fine for about 6 months and then cracks developed on the top of the filter housing. I used epoxy glue to seal it and it worked for another 6 months, but then it cracked again. This time the crack was too big to fix. I have seen other people had the same experience with their water faucet filter according to their reviews on Amazon.com.

2nd time in less than a year this has happened....caught it early last time....this time not so lucky.....ruined wood floor in kitchen, leaked into basement, luckily into unfinished part.....obviously a problem but not getting any answers....refrigerator less than a year old

Water filter in our GE side by side refrigerator cracked flooding my home causing thousands in damage. Two cases now. Ours is a 2001 model. Any thoughts?
