Question about Asko Dryers

Moisture buildup causing short-circuit in control board--maybe??

I have a 9-yr old dryer that has performed without problem until yesterday when it running through a cycle while being improperly vented. It seemed to be running an unusually long time, so my wife opened the door, which of course stopped the cycle, but when she tried to restart it, the lights on the cotrol panel began coming on randomly with each button she pushed, and the Start button would not work at all. I let it cool down, tried the reset button (it had not popped out), checked what I could electrically and found nothing obvious. As of today "the lights are on, but nobody's home". I suspect the control board shorted out from the buildup of moisture, but I have no way of testing that for sure. Any suggestions?

If it was not vented correctly, then the thermo switch, may have went out. Also, check to see if the heat element has burned out.And check to see if the dual breaker has one side tripped.

Timer goes from 34 mins to 30 alright but it drops to 20 mins from 30 clothes are nt dry when it stops

First did you change the control board If so what were the symptoms before you changed it ? Does the dryer heat up ?How much of the dryer did you disassemble? Did you check the vent for lint buildup? Does the dryer display any service codes? If you changed the control board for a different problem and only took the top off the dryer providing you installed all the connectors properly I would suspect a defective control board. FIRST UNPLUG THE DRYER. If you removed the front of the dryer you might want to check the connector going to the moisture sensors usually mounted on the front of the dryer near the lint filter.
Also. Check to. make sure the moisture sensors are clean of any items that might cause them to have high resistance. Using the wiring diagram ( found under the top of the dryer) and ohmmeter check for an open connection between the sensor strips and the control board and repair if necessary. If this does not work try removing the thermistor to see if there is anything between it and the dryer housing. Check it for proper resistance and check that it connects to the control board.

Whirlpool Dryer Various Test Procedures - Part 3

TEST #5 Moisture Sensor
NOTE: This test is started with the machine completely assembled. This test is performed when an automatic cycle
stops too soon, or runs much longer than expected. NOTE: Dryer will shut down automatically after 2-1/2 hours.
The following items are part of this system: Harness/connection, Metal sensor strips, Machine control electronics
1. Activate the diagnostic test mode and advance past saved fault codes.
2. Open the dryer door. If a continuous beep tone is heard and an alphanumeric number is displayed on the console as soon as the door is opened, a short circuit exists in the moisture sensor system. If this doesn’t happen, go to step 3. Otherwise, go to step 4. NOTE: Over drying may be caused by a short circuit in the sensor system.
3. Locate the two metal sensor strips on the inside of the dryer. Bridge these strips with a wet cloth or finger.
If a continuous beep tone is heard and a software revision number is displayed on the console, the sensor passes the test. Go to step 8. If not, continue with step 4.
4. Access the moisture sensor wires: Remove the lint screen. Remove the two wires holding the lint screen to the top. Remove the four screws from bottom of the duct in rear. Remove the duct from the dryer to access
the moisture sensor.Disconnect the sensor connector.
5. Access the machine control electronics. Remove the connector P13 from the circuit board. Check the main
harness connections between the sensor connector and machine control for a short or open circuit. Replace the main harness if necessary. If the harness is okay, continue with step 6.
6. Measure the resistance across the outermost contacts of the sensor connector that includes the two MOVs. Sensor Harness with MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) Sensor Connector Sensor Blower Housing Disconnect sensor connector. If a small resistance is measured, check for debris across moisture strips inside of the drum; clean if debris is present. If debris is not present, replace sensor harness with MOVs. Otherwise go to step 7.
7. Measure the resistance across each of the outermost contacts and the center terminal (ground connection).
If a resistance less than infinity is measured, replace the sensor harness with MOVs.
8. If moisture sensor diagnostic test passes, check the thermistor: Perform TEST #4a. If the problem persists after replacing the moisture sensor, harness with MOVs and thermistor, replace the machine control electronics.

TEST #6 Buttons and Indicators
This test is performed when any of the following situations occurs during the Console Buttons and Indicators Diagnostic Test:
None of the indicators light up No beep sound is heard
Some buttons do not light indicators None of the indicators light up:

1. See Diagnostic Guide/Before Servicing.
2. Perform TEST #1 to verify supply connections.
3. Perform TEST #2.
4. Visually check that the P5 connector is inserted all the way into the machine control electronics.
5. Visually check the user interface assembly connections.
6. If both visual checks pass, replace the user interface assembly.
7. Plug in dryer or reconnect power.
8. Perform the Console Buttons and Indicators Diagnostic test to verify repair.
9. If indicators still do not light, the machine control electronics has failed: Unplug dryer or disconnect power.
Replace the machine control electronics. Plug in dryer or reconnect power. Perform the Console Buttons and Indicators Diagnostic test to verify repair.
No beep sound is heard:
1. Visually check that the P5 connector is inserted all the way into the machine control electronics. If visual check passes, replace the user interface assembly.
2. Plug in dryer or reconnect power.
3. Perform the Console Buttons and Indicators Diagnostic test to verify repair.
4. If replacing the user interface assembly failed: Unplug dryer or disconnect power. Replace the machine control electronics. Plug in dryer or reconnect power. Perform the Console Buttons and Indicators Diagnostic test to verify repair.
Some buttons do not light indicators:
1. Visually check the user interface assembly connections. If visual check passes, replace the user interface assembly.
2. Plug in dryer or reconnect power.
3. Perform the Console Buttons and Indicators Diagnostics test to verify repair.

TEST #7 Door Switch
Activate the diagnostic test mode and perform the Door Switch Diagnostic test.
Functionality is verified with a beep each time the door is closed and opened, and a number and letter appears in the display (i.e., 0E, 09). If any of the above conditions are not met: Unplug dryer or disconnect power.
Check that the wires between the door switch and machine control electronics are connected. If the connections are OK, replace the door switch assembly and retest. If the door switch assembly has been replaced and dryer still does not start, replace the machine control electronics.

I have a one year old FinePix Z70 camera. Recently it was exposed to some dampness. Having dried it out, the camera worked for a day but then refused to turn on, even with a recharged battery. I assume...

This cannot be a power connection fault as in the first place it was IMPORTANT that the camera was remove and washed /cleaned of the moisture within the unit, specially the main circuit board. If there was moisture then it might have shorted the circuits because of electrical conduction. This would result in intercircuit shorting as sensitive circuits can be damaged.
Hence in the first place nothing can be done from the outside as it is necessary that the camera be opened to confirm the circuit board contacts.
You will need good tools - micro type - to remove the camera while you make a note of all the screws and the part taken while the boady is removed.
Now check the terminals of the battery to the circuit, clean , wash the circuit board ONLY with petrol to clean all moisture and dry using a hair dryer. Keep the circuit under the heater without damaging the delicate plastics-- just warm,
Now reassemble after checking the circuit with a magnification observation lamp.
If the camera does not switch on the control board is damaged and will need a replacement.
get consensus before you order , take estimate or seek help.

It is not related to moisture directly by any chance. If END OF CYCLE does not work. it can be short circuit inside which can cause this. Moisture can cause short circuit or the whole control board may be faulty.

Hello Expert. I have a few years old Samsung LCD 37in. model LE37A457C1D. Few drops of water got in from the top of the set, when it was off. When turned it on, darker 5inch wide vertical stripe appeared....

It is important that you do not switch the set on unless the board is cleared of moisture that is conducting the circuits to bridge and short causing the change in the pictures. so remove mains plug from the outlet , remove rear cover. now take out the main boards after marking the connectors and using a hair dryer warm the boards while looking for water logged into the circuits. You can also use a soldering iron the steam off if there is water within pockets in the board. Only when you are convinced that there is no moisture should the board be set back into the tv.

Kenmore Elite Electric Dryer, Model # 110.8586400, Control Panel Lights inoperative, But Drum Light works fine. I am going to try this procedure, Will let you know if it works. Jay/ Jacksonville Florida...

I followed that procedure, Taking the Electronic Control Unit out of the dryer, Blow Drying the printed circuit Board (PCB) Board out and reseating P3 and P4, Worked fine.. No moisture was found in the Drum area. I forgot to tag the TECH SHEET FOR this particular dryer . But punch in Tech sheet , Part # 8546206 into google, this gives Schematic and valuable Troubleshooting steps, The only thing i could not find was the pin to pin test on chekcing the individual switches on the main functions, Suppose to be 14 pins I only found 13. But in all drying the PCB board and reseating the plugs worked for me. Again the symptons were no Light indication on ANY button depressed but the drum light was on. Have it checked at dealer. I hope your warranty is still good. Probably the same problem wit electrical problems that spring up with other years. Mine needs a new Front Control Module and Power Distribution Mudule due to an internal short in both. How would this happen? Maybe the ******* that designed the idea to put the fuse box with two circuit boards under the hood and not have it sealed up to keep the moisture out. Corosion from moisture causes circuit boards to short out. I hate my Dodge. It costs too much to keep the piece of **** on the road.

Front Panel lights not working? Dryer inside light does work? I fixed this twice already on my dryer. Please read this whole explanation I live in New Orleans where the humidity is very high. I have a laundry room where my Washer and Dryer reside. Kenmore HE4T. I noticed that when I shut the laundry room door, my central A/C pulls hot air from outside the house via the dryer exhaust duct. This causes moisture to build on the inside of the dryer and especially the front control panel. Did you ever see moisture on your dryer?s door even when there were no clothes in it? The moisture collects on the Silicon board that controls the dyers function and basically causes a short. This is what I do to fix it. You will need a ¼ nut driver or socket. 1. Confirm that you have power to the dryer <- is the inside dryer light on when you open the door. YES- keep reading.. NO ? find the circuit breaker and reset it. 2. UNPUG THE DRYER! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 3. Find the 3 screws in the back of the dryer that hold the dryer lid on. Unscrew them and slid the lid back and lift off. Is there moisture on the inside of the lid? 4. Find the 2 screws that hold down the front control panel. They should be silver and will be on top. Do not remove the inside gold screws. 5. Find the 3 screws that hold down the power control panel on the top left side of the dryer. Probably has a high voltage warning sticker on it. 6. Lift the power control panel (sheet metal) part and move it to the right so it lays on the dyers drum. There are some wires attached to it and unless you are a very handy person, I wouldn?t remove them. 7. Lift the front control panel straight up until it comes out of the dryer. There should be some wires that attach this piece to the power control panel. If you are handy, you can remove these 2 clip-on wires from the power control panel by squeezing the black connector locking clip and releasing it from the panel. 8. If you flip the control panel around you may notice moisture on the green silicon chips. Get a hairdryer and take your time to dry them. 9. Dry all components of the dryer with a hairdryer. 10. Put everything back together except for the lid and all the screws. Remember that the front control panel slides down first and then the power control panel sits on top second. Plug the dryer in and see if you get lights, but don?t start the dryer. Unplug the dryer and replace all the screws and the lid. The problem is that once the dryer gets wet from the moisture, it never dries enough for it to start working again. This is a bad design from Sears/Whirlpool. I learn my lesson that just because its more expensive doesn?t make it more better. I now keep my dryer and washer door open all the time even when there are no clothes in it. This lets the moisture escape into the house rather than collect in the dryer. I hope this helps at least one person. Thanks Jason Kennedy from New Orleans
