Your machine is most likely not threaded correctly, also make sure there is no lint built up between the main tension discs, and that the needle thread is in between the tension discs and not just running along the outside of them.

My machine wont make stitches . What could be wrong ?

We don't have much information to go on, like how is it not stitching. Is the machine actually functioning (needle going up & down, feed dogs moving, is the motor working, is it acting like it's stitching but the threads are not forming a stitch?)

No stitches appear in fabric. Top and bottom threads seem to be threaded properly, fabric moves, needle moves in and out of fabric but no stitches are formed.

Install a brand new needle. Verify that it is threaded properly. If it still will not stitch, the machine has probably been knocked out of time. You can search the internet for web sites & videos regarding sewing machine timing or take it for service.

You can search for a manual:

Make Model manual

or contact manufacturer support.

12 wt thread

12 wt thread generally will not work well in the bobbin...

"Aurifil 12wt Thread
Aurifil 12 wt thread is ideal for hand quilting, big stitch hand quilting and machine quilting. 12 weight thread creates a more defined and often primitive look. It's great for designs that use a longer stitch length if using a machine. When machine quilting with 12 wt thread, use 40 wt in the bobbin, increase your stitch length, lower your tension, use Topstitch size 90 needles and stitch slowly."

E1 flashes on the message window of my brother sewing machine

Brother Computer Codes
  • E1: Make sure the presser foot is lowered before sewing.
E2: You chose a stitch other than a buttonhole stitch or a bar tack stitch and you tried to sew with the buttonhole lever in the lowered position. Raise the buttonhole lever.
E3: If you selected the buttonhole or tack bar stitch and start to sew with the buttonhole lever raised, you will get the E3 code. Lower the buttonhole lever.
E4: You hit the reverse button while the bobbin winder shaft was moved over to the right. Move the bobbin winder shaft to the left.
E5: On automatic sewing machines, the start/stop button was pressed while the foot controller was plugged in. Unplug the foot controller if you are using the automatic function.
E6: This code tells you that the motor locked up because the thread is tangled. Untangle the thread, make sure the machine is threaded properly and that the proper tension is set before continuing.

E6. Motor locked up because the thread is tangled. I have re-threaded machine and bobbin; thread still tangles after 2 or 3 stitches. HELP!

In my Brother CE-4000, it appears as though the feed dogs (which you can change to a higher position or a lower position) are allowing the bobbin case to spin all the way around and then the needle hits the bobbin case. When the feed dogs are in the lowest position, the bobbin case does not spin all the way around when the needle moves up and down (and therefore the needle does not get stuck in the bobbin case. I am wondering if this is a problem with the feed dogs/case?

Kenmore sewing machine 15343

I had this problem but have resolved it (for the most part) by lowering the needle down into the fabric before beginning to sew.
