My Wii won't load past the health and warning screen. Not modded in any way. Can I reinstall the OS or do I have to pay Nintendo $85?

SOURCE: Nintendo Wii

From the official Nintendo website:

"Object inserted into the Disc Slot If an object is inserted into the Disc Slot, it will automatically be pulled in, and it won't be possible to eject it. Do not attempt to open the Wii console or otherwise try to remove the object, as it may result in further damage to the console.
The Wii console will need to be repaired. Because this type of damage is not covered under Nintendo's warranty, there will be a charge for the repair. Please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available options."

SOURCE: make nintendo wii multi region

also, if the games you want to play are copied, like $5 games from asia, you will need a modchip to be installed in your console. if they are licensed real copies, you can buy a datel freeloader to make your wii region free

Hi there, there are 2 simple things you could try,
1. Unplug Wii from power for an hour and then power up and try again 2. Resync Wiimote hold red button in the back of wiimote at the same time as you press the red button on your Wii (Under the from panel where the SD slot is).
Also one question. Has your Wii been softmodded at any stage?

WII black screen after power light is on but doesn't do anything. Have to unplug unit to power down. Could it be a bad blue tooth mod?

To clarify, your Wii doesn't cue the start-up screen and does not respond to input (like pressing POWER) after reaching this state. So that means it's probably freezing. Did you port over the data with the normal Wii data systems, or did you use an unlicensed program on your computer or Wii? It's very likely that any unauthorized programs might be too much for the console to handle, or might have viruses intended to freeze up your Wii. That goes for the Bluetooth program you mentioned as well.
The best thing you could do here is remove the SD card, and if you have a way to access the Wii through a computer, restore its basic factory programs and nothing more.
If you can't get to it through a computer, then remove anything connected to the Wii-USB plugins, discs, the SD card, even the batteries in your remote-and try starting it up again. Decreasing the input levels might free the way for the console to start. If you do get it up and running, power up one Wii Remote, and navigate through menus to delete your Wii data-there's a way to do that in Settings. Depending on where you are, you either want to wait for the menu to load, or click to the next option as quickly as possible. Some submenus load at the same time as their parent menu, so you want to get past the parent quickly before it tries to load too much data for your damaged OS to handle. On the flip side, other submenus load only when selected, and so you'd want to wait for the parent to load before clicking so as not to overload the system in that way. It's all guesswork there; without knowing the code, you can't tell which type of submenu it is.
If you can't get past the freezing black screen, call a professional source. Nintendo is the highest quality, but very expensive. I do believe Play-N-Trade does console repair/replacement; there might not be a location nearby, though.
Finally, try not to use unlicensed programs... unless lots people on the internet say the program works. (:

Wii soft mod guide

Wii SoftMod Guide 3.1 - 4.1
Before we start into the process, you will need an SD card, at most 2gb capacity. This SD card will need to be formatted into FAT32 format.

Note: If you are on Wii System Firware 3.1, 3.3 or 3.4 You need to be connected to the Internet, unless you know the proper steps to upgrade using the Wii System WAD and Firware Updater 4.1 which I may include later.

First, download this file pack. Wii SoftMod 3.1 - 4.1 Pack
Download Readme file here. Wii SoftMod Readme

Step 1. Install The Homebrew Channel & BootMii

1. Put all the files from ‘Wii SoftMod 3.1 - 4.1.rar’ onto the root of the SD Card.
2. Insert the SD card into Wii.
3. Go to Wii Options, then go to Data Management > Channels > SD Card, then you will get a message saying "Load boot.elf?" , select 'Yes' and the Hackmii installer will run. (Goto the Channels first, then insert card or your console might freeze)
4. Install Bootmii as boot2 if you can, if not then install it as an IOS then go back and install the Homebrew Channel.

Step 2. Install Recommended CIOS

1. Go to Homebrew channel and run Trucha Bug Restorer, load IOS36, press 1, read the warnings then select 'downgrade IOS15', select to load IOS from SD card then let it do its job, keep an eye on what it is doing and make sure you select 'load from sd card' when it asks & don't get any errors.
2. Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, this time select to load IOS15 on first screen using dpad left/right, then select the IOS36 menu & install patched (select 'yes' on all 3 patches) IOS36 to slot 36, again using IOS from SD card.
3. Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, load IOS36 and this time select restore IOS15.
4. Run cIOS38 r14 installer, select IOS36 as the one it should use and then select wad install.
5. If your Homebrew Channel flips upside down then continue with the guide and when completed reinstall the homebrew channel.

Step 3. Update System Menu (Only for 3.1, 3.3 or 3.4 Firmware) Note: Internet Connection needed

1. Before you update to 4.1 make sure you have at least 250 blocks free or you will brick, install IOS60-patched first with Wad Manager using IOS249, then run Firmware Updater 4.1.

Step 4. The Final Step

1. Go to the Homebrew Channel and run Wad Manager 1.4 and load IOS249 (Default) and SD card.
2. Instal the following IOS.

* IOS38-64-v3610

* IOS50-64-v4889

* IOS53-64-v5149

* IOS55-64-v5149

* NeoGamma r8b17

Wii will not load past Health and Safety screen.

Try a hard-reset. Unplug the console from the Mains For 5-10 Minutes.
Wii returns back to default settings.

Thankyou for Using Fixya.
