If oil is leaking on the compressor you may have a valve cover gasket leak have that replaced and that will stop your leak problem.your compressor has a leak in it also thtas why its not engaging. you should have it dye tested in order to find out what really is leaking in the system.

01 Sebring convertible, AC was low on refrigerant, and would stop blowing cold air and start blowing warm air. I added refrigerant, and it worked perfectly for about 20 days. Now it blows cold, then it...

First of all if your system was low on refrigerant there is a leak. You can recharge and exspect the air to work, how long it will last depends on the size of the leak.Somtimes the refrigerant can have a leak prevenative but this is for very small leaks. You need to have dye put in to system and use black light to find leak.they make kits at your local auto parts store that you can buy and do this your self.If you say it worked well for about 20 days, that is a fairly large leak. The reason why the compressor is acting so erractic is because the freon has oil in it and lubracates the bearings in compressor. When the system goes low the compressor will turn on and off to protect itself.Eventually it will stop running completly.Idont think you have an electrical problem,Ithink you have a big leak.Try what I said and good luck....Brian

I have a 1999 323i BMW. The AC doesnt blow cold (on cool days it blows cool temperature but not common A/C Cold Air, Hot Days it blows Warm/Hot Air). The heater blows warm air but definitely not common...

First things first.....You must have the air conditioning system hooked up to an a/c system machine and then checked for leaks and also read low and high side pressures. If there are leaks then low Freon (R134a) content and low refrigerant oil can cause the a/c system to not engage the a/c compressor which basically means you will not have proper defrost functionality nor regular air conditioning. Most shops, when working with your air conditioning, will install air conditioning dye to assist them in locating leaks and is the first step in diagnosing all a/c systems. The a/c on my 2003 honda accord will all of a sudden stop blowing cold air. I already had the filter changed thinking that was the problem. The mechanic is having a hard time figuring out what is wrong...

have you tried refilling the aircon gas ?

It goes empty after a while.

The reason for cold then not cold is because it is a system that works in reverse of your radiator.

The gas cycle through the system. goes through the radiator of the the aircon system (not the same as the one for the engine). there is extracts the heat out of the air. the air is now cold and pushed into the car.

the warm aircon gas the made cold further along the system but the dont have enough in the system.

imagine athletic ruynning around a track. all 20 are bunched up together. there is w spot light in the centre of the infield shining on you.

the track is your aircon system.
the spot light the air coming into your car.
You are the car
The athletes are the aircon gas.

When they run between you and the light the air is cooled off and you are getting cold air.
now of goes the air (athletes) around the system and till they come along again you get hot air.

Now fill up the aircon system (put more runner on the track and voila, less light reached you cos there is more gas in the system.

However if you refill it and after a day or even just a week it the same again you have a leak in your system and will need to have it looked at by someone specializing in car aircon repairs.

I have a 2002 impala and my A/C keeps blowing hot air. When I put in freeon, it works for a while then the next day, hot again.

theres probably a leak in your lines or compressor. to check, lift your car, put in a new can and check to see if you hear or see any leaks in the lines or compressor

A/c is blowing hot air

Hi

Wel I am not a mechanic or anything, but i haev had some experience with aircons. The one problem might be that there is a leak in the pipes. 9 out of ten times the leak is where the various pipes join. you can simply take a spaner and tighten them otherwise the leak maybe where the compressor is. if the pipes were blocked then it will not blow any cold air and you said it did blow cold air for a while. the way to find a leak is take soap water in a spray gun and spray the soap water in on the pipes and joints, this should blow a bubble where the leak is. however this can only work if you have gas in the compressor. so fill in more aircon gas first.
hope i am right.

Thanx

I have a Mazda mx6 and the aircon won''t work.

what won't work? the interior fan or is all else well except the cooling part? if the compressor does not come on, then perhaps you need to refill gas. in the very front of the car under the hood, you remove the plastic covers where the hood opener is, and you will see some pipes & a canister. on top of this canister there is a clear small round site glass, you can check there for gas if you have dye, or you can unscrew the cap over the refill nipples and depress with you finger nail, air (gas) should blow out under good pressure, not a little only. there is also a fuse you can check situated in the same place, this is for the compressor

A/C not blowing cold air

Check the aircon gas is filled up, this is something that needs to be filled up once every 2-3years especially if used often. There should be a metal pipe running to the aircon radiator tank with a small glass window somewhere. This should be green from the gas inside, if it isn't it's empty. Take it to a workshop, it shouldn't be more than a few dollars for a refill. Hope that helps!
