So if I take apart my FAV6800AWW and identify the bad part or parts, are parts available separately or do I have to purchase a kit?

  • mike roque Dec 12, 2009

OK Rich, I have your instructions printed out with the disassembly instructions from SM pages 45-49 for handy reference. Washer is drained, top is hinged backed. Front panel is off and washer tilted back on a 4 X 4. Got my tools in hand and a flashlight. OK guys Im going in --- wish me luck.

ok- clutch wheel came out and apart easy. Cleaned up all parts with WD 40. Going out now to pick up some slick 50. So when in the process of taking apart clutch wheel I noticed the pin was not in the loop at the end of the spring. Spring looks good and still intact with housing. I plan to lube and reassemble. Does spring need lube or just WD? - Mike - nccabinets.

Hello nccabinets, My comments are based on the FAV6800A or FAV9800A for support in this forum. If your machine type is not one of those then please disregard my pos, if it is do read on. You are describing a common failure for FAV6800A or FAV9800A caused by a Clutch malfunction 9.99998 times of 10. See this post Clutch repair post for the DIY fix. I?m an owner of the FAV6800A machine. I suggest diving in and do the repair yourself and save $300 plus over a service repair. I will help you all the way and offer phone support if necessary, my support is free. What are the first two digits of your serial number of your machine. From the front of the machine the s/n tag is on the right rear console. Could be 10, 12, 15, 16, 17?etc. That will give me a feel if your Clutch assembly uses the Upper One-Way roller clutch ring. At the Clutch repair post link you can pull the Service Manual a must for DIY'ers. If you decide to DIY I have some additional info?. so just let me know what direction you want to go. You can drain the excess water out of the wash tub in Service Mode; Process slightly modified from the Service Manual; Enter Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads ?00? Pressing the Delicates key will lock the lid. Now press the Presoak key the drain pump will turn on. Stop with off button or hit the Presoak key. Rich

    nccabinets,

I believe you caught the issue early. Do not buy any parts we will know more when you remove the clutch and inspect. With severe rust issues with the One-Way Roller clutches or a broken large wrap spring you would need to replace the clutch. I recommend a replacement clutch and vendor at the post I directed you to. At this point I feel you will be OK with a One-Way Roller clutch clean up and re-lube.

I’m on lunch break I work 4pm to 12:30am and can’t expand much more on the issue. If you are the least bit handy you can do this. I feel if you get a quote to repair you are looking at $300+. I feel your Tub Displacement Sensor is not the cause because your machine is shutting down in spin cycle with a dC unbalance error. If the TDS did not shut the machine down with the unbalance error dC the machine would shake itself apart..

I believe your series 11 FAV6800AWW will use the upper One-Way Roller clutch bearing ring. I clean up the One-Way Roller Clutches with WD-40 and I now recommend Slick 50 One Lube to re-lube the Roller Clutches.

See this recent post for what I feel you might find when you open up the clutch.

I will help you every step of the way on getting your machine back in service. I would lay the washer down on the floor to remove the clutch. Watch for any excess water that will drain out, have some towels around just in case. It’s a tight work area but can be done without removing the tub. As I mention in my post reseating the clutch is the most difficult part of the job.

Post back with any questions or concerns and I can offer phone support if needed.

Good luck….. you can do this Rich

    Mike,

I clean off the spring with a little WD-40 on the end of an old tee shirt. If you take the Large Wrap spring out of the clutch it’s a little tricky to get it back in. but I feel it worth cleaning up everything with the tear down.

Going with Slick 50 route is a new try for me. But my thoughts any type of bearing grease will attract dust particles/**** and bring on those sticky One-Way Roller clutches quicker. But it needs the test of time with this. You’re the first patient. Anyway you are now a Maytag Guru Congratulations! Just make sure you get the clutch to seat properly and watch your fingers when you walk drive belt back on the clutch pulley.

Waiting to hear back from you and please chime in with any improvements I can add to the clutch maintenance/repair post. It is an old post……Rich

Thank you Mike for the feedback, that will help me when working with Series 11 owners. I think Series 13 and above have the redsigned outter tub that won't except the upper One-Way Roller Clutch ring. Watch out for corrision issues with that left lid lock. OD,OP,FL and sometimes FO errors. I have the troubleshooting for that documented...Rich

Washer does not spin cycle, why?

In top load washers, if the machine goes through the cycles and then just stops at the spin cycle and leaves you with no noise and a tub full of water more than likely the lid switch is bad and not completing the circuit for cycle to continue. This is a safety precaution to prevent injury by reaching in the machine while at high speed spin. If the machine is getting to the spin cycle and still turning slowly but not draining the water, the pump is probably the culprit, either being locked up or in most cases something like a sock, etc. is stuck in it preventing it from turning. This is usually indicated by a humming sound during the spin/drain section with no water draining.

Washer has stopped at 26 min with water in the drum. Will not spin or drain. Just sounds like it starts running then stops and repeats.

Good deal your machine is a Series 11.

“”Washer has stopped at 26 min with water in the drum. Will not spin or drain. Just sounds like it starts running then stops and repeats.””

I believe this is the start of a Spin Cycle of that Wash Cycle which Wash Cycle did you have selected?

Are there any error codes to the LED display like dC or uC?

If you stop that wash cycle with the wet load and do a Spin Only cycle will it complete with no error code?

Does the wash tub bang around in Spin Only cycle with the wet clothes load?

Standing by for some feedback and I will try to help.

Here is the Service Manual and parts look up. Can you let me know if you want to try to DIY the fix?

Kenmore washer - water won't drain. It stops

If the water drains between the wash and rinse cycles, your motor and pump are probably OK. If this is a machine with a dial, try a different cycle, like normal instead of heavy duty. If that works and the machine completes the entire cycle then the timer probably has a bad spot. You might try to find a replacement timer if that is the case although I didn't have any luck with my 10 year old washing machine. Best of luck

F&P washer lights on and beeps

Clogged pump stopped up drain. If the washer does not think all water was pumped out in 8 minutes then it shuts down. Slow drain is my first inclination.

Does not drain error code f2

There is a block in your pump, you have to locate it, dismantle it & remove the block. Plug off the wall first.

Washer fills/agitates and stops prior to draining

If pump works fine or still pumps out water, then it is a timer malfunction. Replace the timer and you should be fine. To locate a part number for your timer, refer to www3.sears.com with the model number off your washer.
