HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

NOTE_ This will, generally, require the skilled hands of a service tech. The magnetron is a very dangerous device, that can cause injury if not handled correctly. Due to the fact that the magnetron is emitting the noise, this will indicate that the fuse is ok. The magnetron for this particular unit will cost $138.60. Factor in the service call fee, and the repair will be around the 300 dollar amount.

If it is the magnetron you should be covered in warranty by Bosch.more likely problem is bad capacitor and diode ~ $45-50 parts $80 labor +service charge where applicable.Hope this helps. Please rate my response :)

Makes loud hum noise but does heat

That is a symptom that the magnetron circuit has failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. Not worth fixing since the replacement part can cost as much as as a new oven. Sorry.

My Kenmore 721.626222 which I have had about 6 years, runs but does not heat. There is also a strange smell - something like a burning smell.

When the oven does not heat, the problem is usually due to the magnetron failing. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. It fails by shorting out causing a loud buzzing noise. The burning smell is the being magnetron overloaded due to the short. It not worth fixing since the replacement cost of a magnetron is close to the price of a new oven. Sorry.

The microwave makes a loud "hum or buzz" noise but will not heat up the food My microwave is running and sounds like it is working but will not heat up anything.

Hi, Your hi-voltage system has gone bad. The noise you are hearing is the hi-voltage transformer. This has taken the magnetron which does the heating out. The magnetron has a 5 year warranty on it, the rest of these parts only have a year on them. Contact your nearest repair center. Thanks,

My microwave is making a humming noise but not heating. replaced, capacitor, diode, checked all switches including thermal switches and the wires look good going to the transformer and magnitron. Please...

The part that you did not replace is the problem with the oven, the magnetron. It typically fails and shorts out, causing the oven to make a loud humming noise. Not worth fixing since the cost of the magnetron is typically as much as a new oven. Sorry that you spent your time an money replacing the wrong parts.

Microwave comes on but not heat item

It's most likely the magnetron that has failed if it does not heat the food. The magnetron is the part the generates the microwaves. When it fails, it typically shorts out, and makes a loud hum or buzzing noise. If this is the case, it is not worth fixing since the cost of the magnetron is almost as much as getting a new oven. Sorry.

From your description it sounds like the magnetron has failed in this oven. That's the part the makes the microwaves to heat the food. It typically fails by shorting out and making a loud hum noise. It not usually worth fixing since the price of a replacement magnetron is almost as much as a new oven.

My Frigidaire over the stove microwave not heating food

Hi,It is most likely the magnetron and diode that has to be replaced. This job should be done by a tech, High voltage. Magnetron's normally have a five year warranty, check your owners manual.

Makes loud hum and faint smell when turned on

It sounds like your magnetron failing.

If a fuse were blown, it would be totally dead with no lights, no display, etc.

Keeping it out of the landfill a while longer by getting it fixed is always an option.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Makes a loud humming noise while operating

Almost certainly, the component called the "magnetron" has died. This is the valve (tube in the US) which actually generates the microwaves. The loud humming is the transformer that supplies the magnetron being overloaded and/or the magnetron itself. If the rest of the appliance is OK and not too old, the magnetron can be replaced. If you aren't familiar with these appliances, you *must* get this done by someone who understands the dangers of messing with them - if you get it wrong, they can bite! In some countries, only qualified engineers can buy the spare parts. In the UK, the part costs around £40 - £80, depending on the model. If the appliance is more than around three years old, it may be a false economy to repair it as other parts may fail soon after the repair.
