Wii Disk Error

Unable to Read the Disc" Error, or Disc Not Recognized (Will Not Play Game Discs) Situation:
  • The Wii console will not play game discs (disc is not recognized)
  • System displays either error message "Unable to read disc" or "Disc could not be read"

Important!
  • If this problem happens very infrequently, it is normal and does not indicate a problem. A Wii Lens Cleaning Kit can be purchased to help keep the lens clean and prevent the situation from worsening over time.

  • Wii Game Discs are region locked, and can only be played on hardware from the same country where the game was released. (A European game cannot be played on a North American system, for example.)

What To Do:
  • The Wii console is only compatible with Wii and GameCube discs. It is not compatible with DVDs or discs made for other home consoles. Verify that the disc you are inserting is compatible with the Wii system.

  • An error message may display if the disc is ejected during play. Return to the HOME Menu before changing discs.

  • Verify that the console is placed correctly.

    • If the Wii console is lying flat, the game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot.

    • If the Wii console is standing vertically, the power button should be on the top and the console should be in the stand. Note: Only Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 are intended to be placed vertically. (Learn more)

  • Verify that the disc is being inserted properly.

    • If the console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards.

    • If the console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right.

  • Check the non-printed side of the game disc for dirt or severe damage (such as scratches or cracks).

    • If the disc is dirty, try cleaning the game disc. (How to)

    • If the disc is damaged or scratched, it will need to be replaced. Please click here for replacement options.

  • If the problem occurs with only one game disc, there may be a problem specific to that game. Click here to check our list of specific game issues.

  • Make sure only licensed accessories are being used. Unlicensed products do not undergo Nintendo's testing and evaluation process. They may not work at all with our game systems, and they may have compatibility problems with certain games or accessories.

Put mario cart in and go through until it says error occured eject and turn off etc but it will not turn off

This error occurs if you have a problem with the disc. This normally happens if the wii console cannot read or recognize the game disc and freezing usually occurs after the error. You need to restart the wii console if this happens. Also check the disc for any visible damage and try cleaning if dirt is present. If this happens on all or majority of your games, there could be a problem with your wii's disc drive, but if it only occurs on a specific game then the problem is with the disc itself. Good luck!

My wii keeps showing the following message and will not work: An error has occured, press eject button, remove disc, turn off power to console and read operation manual. What can i do to sort this out?

Dear,

Seems like you are having some Wii technical issues here. Usually, it is recommended to take your gaming console to the Nintendo repair shop which costs you huge and takes 2-3 weeks of time for the entire repair procedure. The cycle keeps on going again and again no matter what!

But I have a solution for you. There is this Easy & Complete Nintendo Wii Repair Guide available online that you can buy for once and then fix your gaming console at home without anyone's help. It requires zero technical knowledge and even a person with no technical background can fix Wii with the help of this Wii Repair Manual. It has numerous pictures, charts, graphs, and step by step instructions which would never let you down.

Trust me, I bought one for my sister and now we not only fix our own gaming console, but we are able to fix others' consoles as well and make money out of it. Try it! Its worth it.

Unable to read disc

If (1) this error only occurs with the Wii Fit game and (2) you have no scratches or marks on the game disc and (3) you have cleaned your Wii with a lens cleaner product recently; then, most likely the Wii Fit game disc is bad. It's not your Wii.

here's the problem: the wii fit game is 4.7gb. Most wii games are 4.4gb. Burning a Wii game at 2x speed is fine if its 4.4gb.

For Wii games that are 4.7gb (full size of a DVD disc) the games must be burned at 1x speed or errors will occur.

It is likely that Nintendo burned these at 2x speed and therefore your wii is getting an error due to them incorrectly burning the disc.

Game will not read disc. Starts and then says error

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide
