Game cds not recognised on windows 7- Rome total war / medieval 2 total war

Does the CDs have scratches? Or is it that the cd does not install on windows 7 ? If this is the case go to explore, to the Cd drive (the Game)
look for the setup file or install file (.exe) right click on the file with you mouse, go to properties, click on the tab 'Compatibility, click on run the program, select windows XP and the buttom run program as administrator. i hope this helps

Win XP is not powerful enough for games due to the lack of the amount of memory that can be installed.I guess you had the 32bit version and that is the main problems running apps or games with not enough memory..

Hey 1323164 you were right. I was having this same problem trying to run this game on Windows 10 but what ended up fixing it was opening up the folder on the disk, running the setup file in compatibility mode for Win XP (service pack 3), and running it in administrator mode. Then in the setup I ran custom install, and selected the Direct X install and selected "will not be available for program". Basically it would not be installed with the program. Then I pressed next and it installed and runs great! :D Thank you so much for that hint!

Drakan order of the flame engine crashes when i start a new game. i have windows 7 but im running as admin and in compatability mode for win xp sp2. what else can i try?

You could try installing the DirectX version the game uses. (probably on disk)
You can also try to download this Windows Virtual PC.
Windows Virtual PC emulates Windows XP on your Windows 7 PC, so that you can run older applications that won't run on Windows 7 otherwise.
You will however need a processor capable of virtualisation.
Virtualisation check and download here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
After installing Windows XP Mode you will need to install the game again in this XP emulator, but after that it should run fine.

I hope this helps,
Yannick.
