Make certain you have the correct bag installed, that the bag does not have a tear in it, and that the hose leading from the floor head, up to the bag, does not have a tear in it.
Also make sure the beater bar belt is not rubbing against anything, and that the beater bar can turn freely only against motor resistance.
The only reason vacuums cut-out during use is because they get too much air (missing or torn bag, bad or missing suction hose, rubbing belt or beater bar rotation restriction). There is a small chance the motor has a problem, but a very small chance.

Either the switch has a contact inside, or the wiring in the harness to motor are making contact.
This can be verified using a multimeter , preferably reading continuity (Ohms) on switch contacts, with power disconnected, that is safer than reading voltages.
This will tell if responsible is the switch or the wiring harness.

The motor has a protective overload cutout device to stop it from over heating - this can be caused by a blockage of some sort in the hose or brushroll compartment or blocked filters.
After checking the above and it still cuts out, take it back under gurantee
SOURCE: the motor is overheating and shutting off
Sounds like there is a clog somewhere or a filter needs to be cleaned if it has one. Or the bag may need emptied.
