Question about Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L Motherboard

1 Answer

Hi, I have just purchased a new system and after setting it all up, it wont boot at all. What happens when I turn the machine on is: 1)My monitor displays nothing (it's status light stays amber although its 'connect to source' message goes away) 2)The motherboard makes no sounds at all (no beeps etc) 3)The cpu fan try's to spin but fails (it 'judders' once then stops) 4)The motherboards phase lights are green, green, yellow, red for about 5 secs then turn off 5)My keyboard numlock icon lights up. The steps that I have taken to diagnose the situation is: 1)Ran the system with 1 block of ram (trying all the ram slots) 2)Ran the system with only the cpu, gfx card and ram - in the case 3)Ran the system with only the cpu - out of the case (check for shorts) 4)Used the 'Reset CMOS' jumper then tried all of the above 3 steps Every test I have done produces the same results (top list). Is there anything that I am missing / doing wrong? Or is it a case of Dead On Arrival for the motherboard?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am completely stuck (I have built quite a few machines before but am no expert). The system specs: MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 3.0GHz RAM: Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 XMS2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX GFX: PALIT GTX260 SONIC OC Edition 896MB PSU: CoolerMaster 600W Silent Pro HDD: Western Digital WD5001AALS 500GB

You could try another power supply. Otherwise, I'd say it's DOA

I found this to work on my motherboard => in 2 ways. I had several SATA HDDs connected just as independent expansion drives. I connected them while the system was powered. No issues until I tried to reboot. I had to disconnect most of the expansion drives until after the OS booted, otherwise the phase LEDs would light up. I moved from a 500W to a 750W PSU. never had the phase issue again with the expansion HDDs connected. "My guess" the drives cause too much of a current draw and the MoBo is not able to POST properly. This may not be the real cause, but so far I haven't found a way to dispute it.

CLR_CMOS (Clearing CMOS Jumper) (next to the battery)

Use this jumper to clear the CMOS values (e.g. date information and BIOS configurations) and
reset the CMOS values to factory defaults. To clear the CMOS values, place a jumper cap on the
two pins to temporarily short the two pins or use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the two
pins for a few seconds.
• Always turn off your computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before
clearing the CMOS values.
• After clearing the CMOS values and before turning on your computer, be sure to remove
the jumper cap from the jumper. Failure to do so may cause damage to the motherboard.
• After system restart, go to BIOS Setup to load factory defaults (select Load Optimized
Defaults) or manually configure the BIOS settings (refer to Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup," for
BIOS configurations).

SOURCE: Problem with the Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L

Trying to help you, please clarify me if the beeps are short or long ones, or some (how many) shor followed by some (how many) long ones. Don't worry, leaving the computer at "beeping mode" won't hurt it. Sorry for the details but these kind of codes identify if it's a motherboard, or CPU, or memory error.

Waiting clarification, don't hesitate to post.

Thanks and regards

Acer Aspire One wont turn on

Hi there
It sounds like the hard drive is faulty and has some bad sectors on it. Take the hard drive and boot the machine to rule out any other possibilities of problems with the laptop itself, if it stays on and just says hard disk not found you know its the hard drive.
You need to have the hard drive checked for possible bad sectors and have them repaired or maybe even have to purchase a new drive.

Good luck

Monitor Shutoff Problem

Power management is a tricky business for a lot of users. I would recommend setting a screensaver up if you already have not and turning that part of Power Management off.

Right click on the desktop, select Properties, click the Screen Saver tab, set up your screensave. Then on that same tab, click the power button at the bottom, changet the turn off monitor setting to 'Never" click apply. Hopefully by never engaging the poower management, this will eliminate the error.
