What am I doing wrong with initial settings?

Basic troubleshooting: When nothing happens, no screen, no response from the unit suspect the power source. Is the outlet live? Check it with a test light or some other appliance? Try another outlet. Is the other end of the cord plugged into the unit. Does the DVD door open and close?

When I use the timer to record a TV show with my DVD-R155, unit locks up.

If you can afford it purchase a TIVO. I had a a video and dvd player and it drove me mad. This unit records 2 programs at once with just the press of a button.
you can watch tv at the same time. Also you can rewind situations on live tv to watch it again. Top unit. I am 73 and I have no problem using it. Love it!

Have 2 units both just flash "loading" and will

This happened last night on my new-to-me JVC SR-MV55. Even powering it off for five minutes didn't help. It apparently crashed during dubbing (couldn't create more than 9 chapter codes?). Manual suggested holding down Stop and Power after powering it down. But no matter how long I held Power it wouldn't stop flashing. But I tried Stop/Powwer for a bit, nothing seemed to happen, then maybe 15 seconds later it restarted "WAKE UP'".

My creative zen 4gb video player will not turn on

well i think you might have disconnected the power button or maybe the soldering has been disconnected. the factory would be best to fix it.

Turned off when i was looking at it

You need to replace the battery in this unit as its not putting out enough charge to power the unit even tho it says it charged.
