Basic troubleshooting: When nothing happens, no screen, no response from the unit suspect the power source. Is the outlet live? Check it with a test light or some other appliance? Try another outlet. Is the other end of the cord plugged into the unit. Does the DVD door open and close?
If you can afford it purchase a TIVO. I had a a video and dvd player and it drove me mad. This unit records 2 programs at once with just the press of a button. you can watch tv at the same time. Also you can rewind situations on live tv to watch it again. Top unit. I am 73 and I have no problem using it. Love it!
This happened last night on my new-to-me JVC SR-MV55. Even powering it off for five minutes didn't help. It apparently crashed during dubbing (couldn't create more than 9 chapter codes?).
Manual suggested holding down Stop and Power after powering it down. But no matter how long I held Power it wouldn't stop flashing. But I tried Stop/Powwer for a bit, nothing seemed to happen, then maybe 15 seconds later it restarted "WAKE UP'".
This player is equipped to do a self power on test to all pain parts of the player to assertain everything is ok. The blue light will keep flasing until it completes its task and then the blue light will stop flashing and you you can start reusing it.....................sodeep
Try setting the clock again paying close attention to AM and PM settings as well as everything else. REC/OTR is for recording "on the spot". Make sure unit is in proper mode with the DVD/VCR button. Customer service number is usually on a sticker on these units.
