Question about Light Outboard Motor Boat Bass Fishing Saltwater Base

Ignition issues I have a tohatsu 9.9 h.p. It starts OK and revs ok in neutral, but when I put it into gear and try and rev/accelerate, it kind of dies out, starts chugging and runs like only running on one cyclinder. Any thoughts

Could be a hole in fuel pump diaphram

I have a 1986 yamaha virago 1100..when I first start the bike and put it into gear it dies out...when I rev it to 7000 rpm it goes into gear and is fine for the day until the next day


Hi, Floyd and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle circuit and transfer ports clogged.
2. Air fuel mixture adjustment too lean.
3. Pilot jet clogged.
4. Faulty accelerator pump.
5. Float level too low.
6. Float bowl contaminated old fuel, water, dirt, rust, etc.
7. Float bowl vent or overflow tube clogged.
8. Fuel flow to carburetor restricted.
9. Intake manifold leak.

that could be an air/fuel problem ,does the engine rev ok when not in gear ? if it does then probably not air/fuel. the autobox speed sensor might be the fault have it checked at a auto trans repair shop

Looses power under a load put in neutral give gas runs good


sound like fuel filter stopped up.if you have distributor type engine your idle speed could be too low and ignition timing off a little.

2007 Mazda CX-9 has recently developed a front end vibration under heavy acceleration. Vibration disappears if shift to neutral at highway speed, engine rev's smoothly in neutral. Suspect engine...


Try to rev the engine while at neutral if you get the same vibration to pinpoint if its from the engine or the drive shafts. If the issue occurs at a certain rev it may likely be the variable valve unit. Check if possible if you can get errors from the computer.

a defective tps sensor could cause this kind of defect..tps is the throttle position sensor..located at the intake manifold connected in the accelerator cable

1998 Kawasaki ZXR 250 will not rev past 2000 RPM


Hi, Cheynedharri and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, stator, magneto, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Faulty or corroded kill switch.
11. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Fuel tank empty.
15. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked, loosen gas cap and go for a test ride.
16. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
17. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
18. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
19. Petcock clogged or damaged.
20. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.
21. Catastrophic engine failure, perform a compression test.
