I have Infinity SM 250 Speakers, and I can't find a repair kit, because the woofer foam has rotted, and I can't find anything at all about them on the net,

Go on eBay and search for "infinity speaker foam repair" and add the diameter or just thumb through what comes up.

I have a pair of Bose 901 V speakers and I stored them and now the rubber around the speakers has rotted away. Can I replace them or should I just trash them?

SAVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Crossing fingers) mine are 26 years old and still holding up. But I know where to find a nearly endless supply of them on eBay.

Search eBay for "bose 901 surrounds", check the 'include description' box.

Around $33 for both speakers.

The 6.5 foam ring

This is a very common problem and I don't know why companies still use foam.

The ring is called the "surround" and the problem is known as "surround rot".

There are 3 fixes.

Replace the entire driver. (most expensive)

Recone the driver (tear out the old cone + surround + spider and glue in a new one using the old basket).

Refoam the surround. (replace just the foam surround).

I know of one location in my hometown (Ottawa Ontario, that does re-foaming and people that do this are few and far between).

If you can find someone to refoam it go that route, failing that do a recone. A recone will last just as long as a new driver.

Hope this helps!

My saab door speakers don't work

Your speakers foam surround is dry rotted. The voicecoil shorts out when the cone is not seating properly. You will need to purchase new speakers.

It is called "dry-rot" and it happens with age to paper cone speakers. I am not aware of any products made to help prevent this problem. But you can always replace the woofers with new one's or find a place that "recones" speakers and that would solve your problem for a long time. If you have rubber surround on the cones, it would take much longer to have any type of dry-rot problems. The "foam" type of surround on the cones is the worst for this problem. Most new woofers have polypropelyne surround of the cones and it would probably outlast you, so replacement with a good quality woofer really is a good option.

Substitute for Woofer p/n 141760

Hi there

Replace the foam for sure. It is always better than looking for another original driver to fit to the box, as they often have foam deterioration happening as well(spares are the same age as the originals) . A great idea(once repaired) is to use an artists paintbrush to apply "Armoural" a polyvinyl protectant to the foam. It will extend the life of it by at least double. They rot in hot humidity and heat environments and there is not alot that works better than that foam. I have done hundreds of speakers here in Queensland Australia. If you live in a hot humid area, there is probably a HiFi shop near you that does repairs to surrounds also. Good Luck

Do you have a source and knowledge for replacement of foam surrounds. holler back and I can help:)
