the only remaining solution is to reset but I have been re-setting for
some time now and I hope to find a permanent solution - thank you both

re-setting seems to be the only solution for now, albeit not a permanent one - thanks - Laval

Seems my problem was fixed by getting an update for the WBR1310 from the D-Link site.
One D-link rep told me to use only WEP and go to channel 11 !
I am now using channel 9 and WPA 2 and it works fine.

Guess one had to up-date before doing anything else IF one can get online

First check to be sure the ip address of the router IS 192.168.0.1, do this by clicking Start/Run and in the Run window type CMD and hit the enter key, this will give you the MS/DOS command window, at the courser type ipconfig /all, then check the ip address shown for the gateway which is your router. If the ip is correct, put a cat 5 cable from the router to the computer and type http://192.168.0.1 if that is the correct ip address and if it does not give you the logon page for the router reset to router to factory defaults as per owners manual. if this works please rate the solution as a FixYa. Thanks BPCS

When I attempt to secure the dlink network at 192.168.0.1,
my network name does not show up on available networks.

Router is a DLink 1310. Dlink says my router is fried, my isp
later said it wasn't. It has been reset many times. The tech
rep has tried the WPA-personal security setting and WPA 2 as well as WEP. They will give me a new router.

ISP says to try WEP.

Does Vista play a role in configuring the wireless router. All tech rep's have been awarem of that but I'm still not online with a secure wireless connection.

Thanks! JWH

Hi Laval,

The router could use any of the following as the default address.

192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1

Are you able to get to the logon page when you type in any of the following?

Reset the router to factory settings and test. Please remember that security settings may be restored too here, so you may need to encrypt the signal. You will need to log into the router's configuration page in order to achieve these. Also try changing the channel in terms of broadcasting... and test again. I hope I have helped here. Good luck.

My WBR-1310 doesn't do wireless to my laptop.

theres a couple of version of this router http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=WBR-1310&tab=3 I'm using the manual from here http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=WBR-1310&rev=WBR-1310
on a working PC download and install this program http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php this will detect all the wireless signals being broadcast - see if the router is actually broadcasting - if it is detected on your PC then it may be that 1) the firewall is blocking access or 2) the security code is entered wrong - -log into the router and remove the wireless security and see if you can now detect

My router (d-link WBR-1310) keeps dropping internet every 10-15

Try to access the configuration page of your router and look for channel number. Change the channel number to 11 or 13 whichever is available. It should work fine after that. If it still does not work, you can hard reset it by pressing the reset switch on the router. However, then, you will have to configure all the settings again.

D-link 802.11g wireless router security key

First, go to your router's ip address (192.168.0.1).
Then, login to your router (default username: admin default pass: blank or admin)
There, under tools or network security or similar to that sort, look for your network/WEP key. There, you should be able to find your network key to access the router's network, and even change it if needed.'
Hope this helps, please rate ^_^

if you are wireless, after a reset you need to connect with the router using an RJ45 lan connector lead. Reboot your notebook, while connect to router and then type in the default address for the set up page normally 192.168.0.1
