Buy an inexpensive card reader to transfer directly from your memory card.

Vista may not support it but you can try some things.

oYou may need to simply and very carefully delete all usb devices from device manager and restart so they are reseen and re-installed.

Windows XP will not recognize Cooxpix S710

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.

When you say "no longer" do you mean you've used that card successfully in your camera before?

Of course the camera can't format a card it does not see, but formatting it in your computer is not necessarily a good idea.

The only suggestion I have is to check if your camera will recognize another similar card, and maybe check the card on other equipment that can handle a card of such size.

A little detective work if you will. The old process of elimination.

Norton has changed your registry...that's why the camera is no longer recognized. Solve your problem the way the pros do....use a card reader.

Computer no longer recognizes my G9

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

i have the same camera but i want to use it like a webcam.
I found a driver that is located in the canon homepage, called "canon RAW codec"(compatible with Vista and XP), and it allows you to download the photos of the camera and to take fotos instantly, but it don't suport the webcam function...  :(  . I'm using it in windows XP.

That's all, Ithink that it must work for all the users.
