You may need new belts. Belts lose elasticity from being stretched. The clutch must be removed and disassembled to change the belts. It's easier to replace the clutch. The belts will be tight and It's difficult without a special tool. While you have the brushroll out pull the shaft out of the center and clean hair and debris from it or replace brushroll if worn or frayed.

How do I replace the belts on a Dyson DC04 purple

That model has a clutch unit from which the two drive belts are located. It is a technical job to strip that unit down to change the belts, so the easier solution if you have a snapped belt, is to replace the clutch unit (that comes with belts on it). A recycled one represents better value for money, and you can get one here: Dyson DC04 clutch unit.

THE ROLLER WON'T GO AROUND. THE EXTRA ATTACHMENT WORK WELL, BUT THE ROLLER STOPPED GOING AROUND.

HI There,

This is definitely a problem with your belts. This Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled models has a poorly designed belt system that frequently goes bad. Most customers will have to replace the belt once every 8-12 months, some even more frequently than that.

There are 2 belts on this machine, and it's recommended that you replace both belts at the same time. If you just replace one of the belts, this will cause the other belt to go bad quicker.

If you don't already have the replacement belts, here are links to these belts through us:
Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Belt Set (38528-034 & 38528-035)

Here's a helpful video that we've recorded that shows you step by step on how to replace these belts, as well as how to do the basic maintenance on the roller brush to prolong the life of the belts as long as possible.

How To Replace the belts on a Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled:

Please be sure to rate this repair helpful, or leave feedback if this video helped you fix the problem. If you're still having problems, please just use the comment field on the repair page and leave a little more specific information on what happened when you inspected the belts, and I'll be more then happy to do some further more advanced diagnosing for you.

By rating the repairs helpful, and leaving feedback, this ensures that Fixya experts continue to leave free repair solutions rather then just leaving premium answers, or repairs that customers pay to have answered. This is also really appreciated.

How do I replace the drive belt in the hoover u6401?

Remove the plate from the vacuum's underside. You will see fourscrews or two clips that attach the plate to the vacuum. Removingthe plate will give you access to where the belts are running. Remove the old belts and replace with new belts. The hoover self-propelled models use two different belts. One is a flat belt Hoover #38528035 and the other is a V belt Hoover #38528034. You can find these belts at www.vacbelts.com on these pages:

Belt keeps coming off.

The dowel that the belt attaches to should have a slight "V" in it. This prevents the belt from slipping off. Check that, if it isn't there than you may need to replace the dowel. I own a Bissell and every 6-8 months replace the belts anyway as preventative maintenance is my philosophy.
