Re: how to downgrade acer aspire 5720 vista to xp

I just got my 5720-4126 so once I had to test the Factory re-install (ALT-F10 at the ACER screen) and knew I could get back to where I started (Vista), tried to install XP from CD. It couldn't even see the disk drive :-(

You can find the drivers at although some work and others don't seem to. I haven't managed to get everything working perfectly yet.

Rashidbb, I would find the drivers first, (this may be difficult), and have them ready to install before downgrading to XP. This way you wont have to look around for drivers on a machine that doesnt function 100%

You will need to download and install the Vista driver for your camera. It should be available at the manufacturers website under the support link. Hope this helps.

ACER aspire 5720 i have degraded to XP os but the audio drivers available in acer support which has been installed and sound is not comming. please clarify me

If you downgraded then make sure you did not use the vista drivers unless they also state that they will work for xp.

You should also check that the hardware is installed correctly.

If you see any exclamation marks in the hardware list then fix those first by getting the correct drivers and installing them one by one doing a restart in between each driver installation

There are four versions of the 5720 and you should ensure you know which one yours is before downloading drivers.

Want to install xp on pre-loaded vista acer aspire 5720

That should not be a problem. Just ensure you have the XP drivers (not saved on puter) ensure bios is set to boot from cd format drive and install.

Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site Make sure you select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers that match the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support :-

If you still have problems try these WEB sites.

Yes you will get all the drivers here
However only Vista Premium and Vista Ultimate users can perform a direct downgrade. You can start a fresh installation from a bootable disk of WinXP. Be aware that this will replace the Vista with XP.

I have an acer laptop and it is built in with window vista. i want to change window vista with window xp, please help me

How do I downgrade?
Install a copy of Windows XP Professionalmag-glass_10x10.gif with the product key that came with the copy, and then when you hit the activation screen - which is near the end of the installation process - select the activate by phone option rather than the online method. You'll likely end up talking with a live rep; tell him that you're downgrading from Vista to XP, and give him the Vista product key. The rep is supposed to walk you through the rest.

I want drivers

This link is to the manufacturers website for your laptop drivers.

This second link is to the file that lists all the drivers and where to download them from.

The Aspire 5720 ZG is not available on the list .. BUT..... you can probably use the 5720Z drivers..
You must uninstall Vista and do a new installation of everything to downgrade to XP.

Best wishes

ACER Aspire 5720

Hi All,

We are a workshop in Spain & I have had several problems with "Down grading" to XP. There is essentially one problem which causes an issue with the XP installation & that is if the the BIOS has a "Fixed" sata configuration. By that I mean you cannot change it to some sort of IDE or P-ATA (Symantics). Our current problems are with an Acer 5720 & an HP Pavilion DV9700. The Acer solution is exactly as "kraken3000" had mentioned before:
1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.

DONOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot. This setting must be kept untill you "Upgrade" (If ever) to Vista. The HP is another story...

Visit the Acer Panam site & download & install the XP drivers & your good to go...

I hope that this was of help...& good luck folks
