How long have you had the UPS? Even rechargeable batteries die(3 to 4 years) and can no longer hold a charge.

You can change that. It is designed to alart you during a power outtage. That way you will have time to shut down your servers. It will alway alarm during a power outage. But check to make sure your batteries are in good condition

Need information

The Back-UPS is fairly straight-forward. The 9-pin connector (at the top of the back) is a serial port (RS-232) for the UPS data (when connected to a computer it will shut down the computer safely during a power outage). The next plugs are RJ-11 telephone jacks; the cord from the jack (wall) goes in on the left (some models have RJ-45 for network protection). The battery protected outlets are the three surrounded by black paint. The other three provide surge-protection only. Do not plug items like printers and scanners into the outlets that provide battery protection.

I hope this helps.

Yesterday and today one of our Smart-UPS 1400 powered off and 2 of our servers along with it. What would cause this?

may be power to the UPS went off or was not within permissible limits, hence the ups run on batteries until they were completely discharged, the servers went off because they are supplied by this ups. check the power supply to this ups, somebody could be switching it off accidentally. try to sitch the inpu power to the ups to see whether the batteries are okey

My universal battery do not have enough back up.

Cpcute,
Yes, initial charge should be for 24 hours before initial use (in general).
The UPS is an Uninterrupted Power Supply and is intended to Power your system in the case of a Main Power Failure long enough for you to Save/Backup your work and shut down your system safely so you don't lose data. Five minutes should be plenty of time to do this? It's not intended for you to continue using your system throughout the Power Outage. The UPS will/should let you know when the Battery needs to be replace, so when it does let you know, replace it at your earliest convenience and it should continue to function as it should.
Good luck.

Surge causing power outage

A laser printer when warming up draws far more power than your battery backup is equipped to support. Plug it into the surge protector side if you have one, or bypass the battery backup entirely.

UPS

Hi,

All UPS uses some sort of battery to power the unit in the event of a power outage. Like car batteries they also have a life span which can be a couple of months to a year or so. If the UPS has been in service for some time, perhaps it simply needs a replacement battery. On the other hand, if the unit is fairly new and carries warranty, it may be to your advantage to consult your dealer and claim for a replacement.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
