My Gateway FPD2485W Television will not turn on. Please help!

Check the power supply main AC fuse, caps. It can also be that it is in shutdown mode if it senses shorted circuits such as the backlights inverter board.

Had a power outage and USB ports on side of monitor do not function now. I had it plugged into surge protector. Any suggestions?

The usb ports are powered using a fuse in series of approx 500-750 ma to avoid damage due to short circuit, check for the blow fuse that is in the path of usb ports.

Gateway XHD3000 Monitor

I may be able to fix it for you
I believe the problem is in the same board that causing the strobing screen problem.
Cost is 150 to repair the problem board if it isfixable. No charge if not fixable.
You will have to pay round trip shipping for the monitor and power supply to Pennsylvania.

Need to remove the outer cover on a Gateway

If you get power to the controls and you don’t have the startup sound or see the gateway logo when you plug it in, the main board may be bad.
If your picture was pinkish or dark at the top or bottom when it was working then you may have 1 or more of the bulbs failing.
If you have the startup sound and see the gateway logo and the screen just flashes and the power buttons stay lit, then it sounds like probably the inverter may have went.

Take the screws out of the bottom rear edge (these hold the front trim), and the 4 big black ones at the middle of the back that hold the stand bracket.
The trim then unsnaps. {Be aware of the small ribbon to the power button board on the right edge}Start at the bottom and release the trim (pulling up the trim on the screen side usually starts it off), then work your way up each side bottom to top ((a pocket knife or thin putty knife even a credit card, will help release the catches as you work your way up)
Then unsnap the top edge (rocking it while lifting helps)
Disconnect the ribbon at the power button board, (Tiny latch lifts up on a hinge and ribbon slides out)
Once trim is off, remove the 4 corner screws that hold the screen in. Then the screen will lift out with all the guts. You may have to pry up on a corner with a screw driver to get it started.
The inverter is under the medium size metal case.
The power board and main board are under the large cover.
You’ll then have to remove a bunch of screws including the usb board ones and unplug the bulbs and wire to the screen
then the power board and control board is under the center area under the metal cover
Shout if you need more info.
If you email me a good picture of the board , I may be able to get a better idea if it is the inverter from a visual.
Thanks Fran

I have not worked on this model of set. I was thinking along the same lines as you are. I do remember some monitors having hidden tabs under the edge of the cabinet. I had to use a very thin blade to reach the tabs. It was something like a remote control where you have to find the tabs to open it.

Gateway FPD2485W how do I replace the LCD

For most models, replacing an LCD panel is very close to the cost of a complete new monitor.

Gateway fpd2485w lcd shows video then cuts off

I'm pretty sure the inverter board is bad. you have to replace it if you can or you can let someone else do it. you should find some on ebay for about $80 (not too bad compared to the cost of the monitor: over $200). but its up to you. But first, you should find out if you are still under warranty. good luck. please rate!!

Slow start

(I'm copying a guest's comment above. What Gateway told him does seem to work - although in my case, the monitor was slow to start when plugged directly into the wall, and it was immediately fixed when I plugged it back into a heavy duty power bar.)

hey, I had the same problem. Gateway told me "Plug the monitor power plug directly into a wall electrical outlet
or a different wall outlet by removing any surge suppressors." I did that and it works. It might be a certain kind of power bar they do not like. It worked for me so try that and see if that helps.
