Hi mike.
I would like to help you but first i need to understand your statement "I have norint for the tv"
In any case you may need to check the supply voltage for that vertical i.c,
It should be between 24 and 28 volts and it is usually derived from the flyback transformer.
If the supply voltage is not there, then check for an open low value resistor like .47 or 1.0 ohms near and connected straight to one of the pin of the flyback transformer.
Hope this will help and i`ll be waiting for your reply.

Tv has horizontal lines on top of screen.

Hello
You are seeing vertical retrace lines on the top of your TV screen.
There are mainly three causes for it. I don't know the age of your TV. The first cause is due to the supply voltage lack to the video output state. You can check it on the picture tube base card. You haven't mentioned about the diamension of your TV screen. So it can be say as a guess. If your TV is 27", the voltage mantioned above will come to about 245VDC. If there is a great voltage loss, check the smoothing capacitor to that supply, will normally come to the value of 10MFD 450V.
The second one is, capacitor related to the vertical output stage of your tv. It is in the circuit board. Normally these capacitors are situated in an area, which will get hot during working. As s result, there is a chance to the value change of their capacitance. It is best to replace all of them, as it may not cost too much. Before desoldering it out, mark the value of each capacitor is best. Normally replacing the filter capacitor 3300MFD or so,to the power supply to the vertical output Ic will solve this problem.
The third is related with the vertical output Ic itself. Just check all the soldering points in the vertical output section of your tv board. Anyway, resoder all suspected soderings by applying a little more solder, as bad solderings to the legs of the Ic or some other components also may the cause. OK.

There were lines at top of TV for sometime then today TV just shut off by it self and burning smell was apparent. Tried turning tv back on and just got souns and a bright line through center of TV. My...

you have a vertical problem . You will need the chip or IC. please check the voltage source to the chip(IC). Diode could be short. Ic had bad solder joints and there are 2 caps that will need to be replaced 100uf or 220 uf caps in the vertical circuits.

Picture go into a thin line.

You have a thin horizontal line in the center of the TV. You, in this case have vertical IC that has bad grounds. Resolder the vertical IC pins and check the capacitors in the immediate area and replace these caps as necessary. If you still have a horizontal line, you will have to replace the vertical IC. Find a TV tech or someone with electronic experience to do this for you. Should be reasonable to fix. Thanks for asking and Good Luck!

My 15 year old Toshiba Televisiononly shows a narrow horizontal band in the middle of the screen. Sound OK.

Hiii fairley,

You aren't specsificly dercribe yor tv set.
For common TV horizontal problem ;i.e : White line accross the horizontal screen, horizontal band,etc..it's can solved by replacing the IC Vertical/Transistor, and olso to replace the cap nearest the IC.

For common TV Vertical Problem :i.e : White line at the center of the screen (top to bottom),Vertical band,etc...It's can cure by Replacing the Horizontal IC/Transistor,and offcurse the cap's.

Tha's what all I know....

Hope can help you to solved the problem.

Thank's

Analog TV, We don t get a picture, just a very narrow line across the screen

Vertical sweep failure.
It will be an I.C. with a part number that probably starts with an LA_ _ _ _ and be on a heat sink in the vicinity of the connector going up to the yoke. Try replacing that. But first, check all the electrolytic caps around it for testing dry (sorry - takes a special meter to do it in circuit) or just replace them. May have lost power to the I.C. as well. Look the I.C. up in the free NTE crossreference at nteinc.com get a diagram of its pinout to find what pins the power and outputs are on.
Hope ya fix it!
