Question about Profile AP1200 Car Audio Amplifier
The first diagnostic move is to remove the speaker connections and try it that way.
(The Amp is like a battery, if the + and - connections don't have enough resistance between them, it fries.)
If it still goes into Safe Mode, there is something wrong with the Amp, power source, or signal input. If it dosn't go into safe mode, be shure your speakers have sufficient resistance, Ohms, for your amp.
The amp will have a minimum resistance for speaker, and the speakers will have a Wattage and resistance. The key is to get the resistance as close or higher than the amp requires, and the wattage as close or less than the amp can supply.
The further from equal ratings will reduce performance. ie: a 200Watt speaker on a 100Watt Amp will only make half the sound it's capable of; and equaly, an 8 Ohm speaker on an amp that can handle a 4 Ohm speaker will only play half as loud too.
(Going beyond these capacity limits requries you to regulate the power output manually, or risk blowing something up.)
FYI: A few laws of Resistance.
Two speakers hooked together in parallel, (All positive connections together and all negative connections together), will provide half the average resistance so 8 Ohms + 8 Ohms = 4 Ohms.
Two Speakers hooked in series, (Positive of one speaker hooked to positive terminal on amp; the negative terminal of the other speaker hooked to negative terminal on amp, and remaining terminals of each speaker hooked together), will provide the sum of all the speakers resistance, 8 Ohms + 8 Ohms = 16 Ohms.
Further diagnostics: Check if the amp smells. (A burnt out amp will keep a burnt out smell.)
If removing the speakers allows the amp to work, attach the speakers again, or even just touch their contacts onto the terminals briefly while it's working to see what happens.
It will work,or it won't.
Hope this helps.
