Reastart the iMac and at the same time hold down the mouse left click button. If that does not work.

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple and (APPLE IMAC G4 - TRYING TO INSTALL OS WITHOUT DISK - commandkeysymbol.gif) icons on it.
  3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
  4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
  5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
  6. Type: mac-boot
  7. Press Return.

How do I reset my imac 5.1 tiger to factory settings WITHOUT a disk

It depends on which OS you are running. OS 10.6 or lower requires a system disk. OS 10.7 and above has a recovery partition on the hard drive which allows you to format the hard drive and re-install a fresh copy of the OS. (To access the recovery partition, hold down CMD + R during start-up)

  • Click the iTunes eject button (see Figure 1).
  • Hold down the mouse button when you hear the startup sound as the computer restarts.
  • Start up from Mac OS X and customize the toolbar with an eject button.

IMac G4 Mac Desktop: imac g4 wont boot up scree's just blue?...

If it only boots to a blue screen, try booting up in Safe Boot mode:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455

If this does not work, boot from your install DVD and use Disk Utility to repair the disk:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2956

If this does not resolve the issue you may need to use your isntall disc to perform an Archive and Install:

I mac g4 kernel panic cant boot from CD to format . got kernel panic after security update. No Driver for this platform

This message indicates that the CD you are attempting to boot from is a release of the Mac OS which is incompatible with this model of Macintosh. I would recommend a retail disk of Tiger or Panther for this vintage Mac.

My iMac g4 1ghz wont boot

First hold down the right hand shift key down when you start, this does some housekeeping, The next step is if you have an install disk or tiger disk then start up from it by holding the "C" key down when starting and inserting the dvd, if this loads then go through the install menu, dont worry you do not need to actualy install just select language and then you get to a screen where you can select utilities from the menu bar, then select disk utility and repair permissions, after that do a repair disk then quit disk utility and change the startup disk back to the hard drive and restart, if for some reason you cannot repair the disk, this refers to the catalogs it uses to keep track , not the data itaelf, in that case you need a 3rd party utility like Disk warrior.

Blueberry iMac with slot-loading CD rom drive will

It would be very difficult to open up the imac to retrieve the disc as the CD drive is totally enclosed and would probably result in it not be functional after removing the disk. Have a look at the following article on the apple website
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3007?viewlocale=en_US as it does indicate that the slot loading imac does have a hole for paperclip ejection. You could also try opening up disk utility and and clicking on the icon of your disk under the left hand column then go up to eject button and click eject. Hope this helps.

Trouble shooting new os 10.4 tiger installation on mac pro

You sure you got the original gray label install discs for this computer? Sometimes people stick gray discs in with the computers and they are not specific for that model.  The Macbook Pro ships with Tiger 10.4.6
Borrow a black label Tiger retail disc from someone and install your OS that way.

If you did a clean install on the whole volume, you wiped your Tiger installation. The best bet is to install your preffered operating system first. When you do it, partition the drive into two of about equal size. Install the other OS into the other patition and have a menu to start the wanted OS when you turn on the computer. You will have to do some research on dual boot computers.

Photoshop on G4 imac

There have been some reported issues with PS7 on Mac Os 10.4.. first i would try repairing disk permissions.. if that doesn't work, you may need to do a fresh install, then download all the updates before you run the application for the first time.
