    Okay, I have solved it.

    For Windows Vista:

    go to control panel

click on Clock, language and region

click on Change Keyboards or other input methods

    click on change keyboards

a window comes up named Text services and input languages

It has the the languages that are set up for the keyboardin

    i removed the french.

click on the upper tab that says advanced key settings:

french should not be listed, but if you test the question mark key it will still have the weird E symbol on it.

the advanced key settings has the keyboard codes for the languages in your keyboard, if you see the code for english, type it in the keyboard and voila!!! you have the question mark back!

if you removed the french language setting from the keyboard, it should stay off. if you want to keep it on, then you can just redo the code to something you remember, such as SHIFT+0 in the window.

    Hope this helps!

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Regional and language options, check you have the language you want in there, then remove the additional (French) language.

This assumes you're running Windows XP. Vista or Windows 7 will be similar.

My husband picked Turkey and not U.S. by mistake. How do we change the language back?

  • Press TOOLS (The spanner symbol) in the bottom right corner of the screen which shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAPS
  • Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol) or LOCALE (The blue symbol) on models that don't have a settings menu
  • Press LANGUAGE (the lips symbol)
This brings you to a screen with 3 items on it. VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
Press VOICE and select a voice from an English speaking county.
Press TEXT LANGUAGE and select American English
Press KEYBOARD and select American or English

While I know you probably won't be able to read the Turkish text I hope you'll be able to follow the instructions.

I accidently changed the language on my 205 series. I think its French but am not sure. How do I get it back to English?

  • On the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP press TOOLS (The spanner symbol) in the bottom right corner
  • Press SETTINGS (the spanner symbol) or LOCALE (the blue symbol) on models that don't have a settings icon
  • Press LANGUAGE (the lips icon)
This brings you to a screen with 3 items on it. VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
If it's in French you won't know which is which but it will show the language beside the TEXT LANGUAGE icon. Francais is the French word for French. To change the voice language press VOICE and select an English speaking name. To change the text language press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English or American English if you're in the USA.

This should solve your problem.

By mistake the language has been changed, how do I change the language of Garmin back to english?

  • On the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP press TOOLS (the spanner symbol at the bottom right corner)
  • Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol) or LOCALE (The blue symbol) on models that don't have a settings icon
  • Press LANGUAGE (the lips symbol)
  • There are 3 items on this screen; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
  • To change the voice language to English press VOICE and select an English speaking voice
  • To change the text language press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English, or American English if you're in the USA
If the text language is already in German you probably won't know which is voice, text and keyboard. The German word for German is Deutch so when you see this beside one of the items you'll know this is the one to change the text language. This should solve your problem.

Instead of getting the @ symbol when I press shift +2 i get "

you need to hold down ctrl and function on the left side of your keyboard, and then hit the shift key on the right side of your keyboard. Then let go of right shift while still holding down the control and function keys, and then hit right shift again.

these blue keys are french keys. if you change your keyboard settings to english US or UK, it will get rid of the blue functions, but for some reason, they tend to turn themslves back on again after time. Most likely due to automatic updates followed by an auto restart. Also, I find that the issue only arises if I am in my hotmail account.....no issue in Word docs.

How do I shift to the blue key functions on the keyboard

I've run into this a lot myself and personally find it annoying more than useful. While typing, your punctuation keys suddenly switch to their french functions. By defaul, Vista assigns a keyboard shortcut fo changing input languages.

This shortcut is ctrl+shift - a very easy combination to press by mistake. To solve this problem, just press crtl+shift until you're back to english. You can change this shortcut or disable it all together.

Open the control panel then click "change keyboards or other input methods" under "clock, language and region". In the window that pops up, click "change keyboards..." then select the "advanced key settings" tab. This is where you can edit and disable language related shortcuts. To change one, click on the profile and then click "change key sequence". Under "switch keyboard layout", select "unassigned" to disable that shortcut.

Bilingual keyboard

There is a small green Fn button near the start button you will have to use this with shift to use the green keys if you are in multi lingual mode, if you only use the laptop for french you can also change the regional settings for the keyboard to Just French and then they will work just by using shift.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Compaq laptop can't get the ? symbol

Hi,

Looks like the French keyboard mapping is still in effect.
You can try changing the keyboard keys back to where they were by pressing:

Left CTRl + left Shift at the same time. then try typing the ?/ key. You may have to try this a couple of times to get it to work.

If it does work, try the right ctrl/left shift key.

Also found this:

Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Keyboards and Languages,
Change Keyboards. Select the keyboard you that's causing you grief and
choose Remove.

If you don't remove the keyboard map, when this switch happens, you'll have
to exit the application you're in (Outlook, for example), change keyboards,
and restart the app. Changing keyboards without restarting the app doesn't
seem to change the mapping.

Hope this helps!
